My thrifted Dolls Spa Day!

Ad-Free Blog
Well, it's finally Spa Day, the thrifted dolls have been sitting on the kitchen table for almost a week.

I'm far from a pro...I use what I have to clean up dolls and their clothes. I have sensitive skin, so I figure the products I use on me and my treated blonde hair should be fine for the dolls.

Remember these from my son and d-in-law...yep, despite being very well kept from a personal collection, I call them shelf dirty, except for one guy, who clearly had been mucking about outside at one time.

So Everyone got a bath and light scrub in Arm and Hammer Laundry soap with OxyClean. It's one of the soaps that works in our well water and also doesn't trash my skin. Surprisingly, everyone came clean with no marks. The guys have painted hair, but of course the girls...UGH! I did have one loose head that came off during cleaning, I think she may have been rebodied, as there's a dent on the inside of her neck that didn't show on the outside.

Brushing or combing dirty hair is a pain. These were dirty from being thrown in a box and tangled slightly. The worst was the Scottish redhead---who had the most hair and multiple original rubber bands that had disintegrated, one of the Super Stars also had the same thing..ancient red rubber bands on blonde hair.

I used a dose of normal shampoo, except on one I added dish soap (Dawn anti-bacterial) to get some hair part dust from probably being displayed. The degreaser in Dawn is great for lots of things. So after shampooing and gently trying to comb with wide tines, I applied quite a bit of Loreal Ever Blonde Conditioner and gently worked it through the hair. It's amazing what good conditioner will do to crappy Barbie hair.

With the conditioner in, I worked through all the hair with the wide tines of the comb, then I did the same with the close tines. Eventually it was all untangled, so I gently rinsed with warm water. Giving one more pass with the comb I squeezed out the excess water and gave the hair a loosening from being straight in hopes it will hint which direction it will want to curl.

The Ballerina doll I left in the original set and just washed it, hopefully it will be okay and straighten with touch up combing. That is a very intricate hairstyle with multiple cross overs, and strands with multiple rubber bands.
The spare Ballerina head's hair was pretty much trashed, and I may just change her into a Mod and sell or gift  the tiara to someone else.

Now they are all naked and chatting while drain drying. I'm sitting the dolls up, so they drain from head to butt.

See you later for the Salon Day, maybe some nail polish and toes too. Curls or no curls...

THAT IS THE QUESTION?????

Thrifting finds thanks to my Son and D-in-love.

They keep an eye out for me...and this Batch of Dolls was from an original owner...and these are all in great condition except for one chewed on Ballerina...where I confiscated the excellent head with the attached crown.

The Ken Dude on the Left is pretty Cool.

Keeping Ken Pinterest

Super Star Ken no. 2211 1977 Blue Velvet suit...shades of Robert Redford on the box. I think I can scramble together the missing pieces of this outfit. Flocked fabric doesn't wash well, so I will try and lightly clean it.

Keeping Ken Pinterest

Sunset Malibu Ken Marked on head 1968, body 1970. This face was originally used for Talking Ken...in the late 60's. He's in great condition just needs a bath.
My guy is wearing the Bold Gold Suit from 1970 shown below.

(not mine) I think I can come up with everything to match this except the socks. Wow this outfit is going for $300 or so in the original packaging.

Superstar girl on Left. So many Superstar faces to go through.

my pinterest

The girl on the left is a 1980 Scottish Barbie from Dolls of the World
( 1966 TNT with Superstar face -angel face made in Taiwan). Surprisingly few SS were made with green eyes, red hair and green shadow...Sweet face, not so exaggerated as later ones where they look like their finger was stuck in a light socket.

Doll and head in Middle are Ballerina dolls from 73, 75 A Taiwan 1966 twist and turn body on the one.
I think both of these heads match the below girl
Barbie 9093

Pinterest On Tour 1976 Ballerina doll, with three outfits. I think I may have one of these. Most of these dolls were Platinum blonde. The crown is anchored heavily into the head. These were still the Mod dolls, though later.

Love this ad from Italy...Prima Ballerina Cara is the AA...so sweet!

Three more Superstars...hair in pretty good condition.
Left girl has been head swapped..and has some neck ring inside damage. and well a clamp mark on her forehead...she may get donated.

Girl in the Middle is one of a trillion...SS faces with blonde hair, except she has a diamond on the right hand, but she has that off center hairline...key for searching
Golden Dreams Barbie #1874  from 1980. She also has 4 painted eyelashes on each eye. (special)

This girl on the right is marked the same Mattel 1966 Taiwan...but her coloring peach lips and hair and eyebrows and three eyelashes, match this.

Roller Skating Barbie 1980, #1880

Turquoise eye shadow and eyes with peach lips. So many Super Star faces it's hard to tell. But with the jewelry hole on her hand, I'm guessing this is a match.

These were the clothes they were wearing...all Mommy Handmade?  But, the construction and fit is excellent on all of them.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

You just have to look at this construction.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Look at this work-woman-ship on this simple sundress...on a dress
that is probably 45-50 years old.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Same on this one...fits perfectly and so well done.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The gold dress is quite nice a few threads pulled out here and there, (that kind of fabric is a pain to sew).

The black evening gown is gold and silver on black, camera lost that also that stringy fabric that sheds, but every seam is clean and tight.
The only one I may discard is the heavy polyester knit pink skirt with the white top...it's just two thick.

LOL, this car has been stripped, no steering wheel, seats or any extras...it has wheels, and maybe needs a 'REDO', ya think?  Fun Stickers though. It's small, which is it's asset as I'm running out of room.

Thanks to my kids for the great batch of goodies. Now everyone is getting a bath and some a hair care.
