BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO--JUST A GRANNY HAVING FUN WITH DOLLS< DIORAMAS STORIES AND DIY

BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO

April 2018 Doll Diorama Finds

I've had some decent luck so far this month."Blessed are those that Spring clean and Donate!"A GREEN thing to do.

I found some cool stuff, in great condition at my favorite thrift stores. This morning, I quick threw everything on the kitchen table, hubby was at a bowling banquet, since I'm banned from the kitchen table.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I found two more wooden votive chairs, the REDO will be NEW seat covers.
I finally found some NEW adorable Minions tees at a Walmart 15 miles from home.

Back to the left is a Cherry Blossom three drawer tall cabinet is a Fashion Fever dresser from the 2005-7ish. Mattel mades some great stuff, during this period, clothes and furniture.
Perfect for a theme I've been working on.
Next to that is a clone mirrored door armoire, that needs a back and shelves. The doors are perfect.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I was very pleased to find this Mattel flexible chair/bed/combo that actually originally came with the Totally Real House, 2005. It has great legs and works in a couple of different ways.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This OLD heavy metal thing was in the candle stick aisle. I have REDO plans to use a Pebo-paint swirled design on this to look like marble. I will do a tutorial on this stuff, if it is successful.
UPSIDE on this piece, I won't knock it over...it's heavy, and perfect for a coffee table.
(The dolls may bump their shins, though.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

An Ebay find---the recording studio I wanted when it came out and then they disappeared, so fast. Some issue with the music holder, but I will get it working. Otherwise, new and complete for $8.00 and cheap shipping. The bench has storage, the key board is removable and could also make this a work station..

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This is a fun piece. A 2008 Glam Barbie Vanity. Lights around the mirror light up---phone rings, and music plays all with separate buttons. Everything works, missing are two shelves and accessories, there were apparently a lot in the original. I love the drawers all work..
But, for $2.99 with a chair, probably not a match, I will take it as is. Now, REDO the pink.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I swear someone's mother got ticked-off and threw their Barbie stuff in the donation bin. This is complete; a 2007 Barbie Dream house Computer Armoire. Perfect condition. Pull out desk keyboard, mouse, discs, radio, screen and a bunch of decorative accessories, chair, and waste basket. I may add real cork to the doors, but not change much else, other than some details on the accessories.
This is a really cool piece, my doll's are already fighting over it.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

A bag of four small frames, which are pretty nice. I can see using them all, for only $2.99. These are better in a dollhouse than in the dump, a GREEN thing to do.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Really not a bad lot----for thrift store shopping, and one Ebay order.
I can't wait to have a chance to REDO some of these!

How's your hunting going!

Barbie Craft Room part 3

AD-FREE Blog

Okay, it's been a little over a month---and both of us having the flu for over two weeks---to get this far. Post Three, but maybe---5 weeks or so.

Entering the NEW craftroom, on the right we have standards up, some electrical showing. We chose this light colored wood paneling, with pegboard for most of the room.

This wall continues for 16 feet---my goodness, my first impulse is to counter this whole wall. But, we are holding off until I decide what I really need the space for. The plan is to have all moveable pieces on locking wheels. So I can configure the room in multiple ways.

Down at the west end is the 10' wall where a sink will be---plumbing is already there. We will be using an ejector pump to get the waste water to go UP and out. Our sewer pipe is really only a few feet below outside ground level. Originally, in the clay shop we we ran a pipe sixty-feet into the sump pump well. We aren't allowed to do that anymore.
It's a good idea to follow codes---a GREEN thing to do.

This niche corner is all paneling. I think it may be a great location for Vickie's Vintage
or a photo area, for closeups.

The two sides facing out of the room. are also all paneling with heavy duty standards for shelving.

My OLD geniuses, hubby and friend checking out the heavy duty standards for NEW storage shelving. Their week's plan: flooring and preliminary plumbing.
I will keep organizing and take some photos of vintage for my Etsy shop.

The new standards hung in the shipping room wall.

I removed the huge plastic shelving in here. I had become a 'packaging hoarder'!
Here is the scaled down version of boxes and packaging.

Now under control---my packaging shelf is now by the desk. I downsized everything...but still hoard small boxes, the work horses for shipping online. My GREEN thing is trying to reuse bags, boxes and clean paper. I'm careful to save any packing envelopes and reuse them.
In this day and age, we all need to reuse or recycle mailing refuse.

My work shipping station is almost clear. There are still two jewelry boxes that will be put in the craft room for a REDO.  My goofy OLD vintage lamp---which just makes me smile--has been rewired. I will probably use that in a corner of the craft room, for mood when overhead lights are off.  I'm anxious to use some of my own 'collection' pieces in there for decor.

The shipping room wall is a work in progress.
Sometimes you have to live with a space for awhile, before deciding on a final configuration.
I have another wrapping station to hang at the other end.
Miscommunication---between 'Mars' and 'Venus' led to hubby
hanging the big standards all the way across.
The space underneath the shelves will be for only the bins I am working on.

Plan for this week:
New floor in the craft room.
Electrical.
Look at lighting---I'm happy with what is there, 'Mars' isn't.
Work on at least two bins for listing in my Etsy Shop.

HOW are YOUR projects going!

Thanks always for visiting.

Barbie needs a new Craft Room

Ad-Free Blog
Okay, I have been having issues posting this month. This is why. I made some great vintage doll purchases, but I have this mess in the Barbie/extra bedroom right now.

I've been banished from the kitchen table, except for sewing. So, we are working on a craft room in the basement.

The HFIM house is in pretty good shape---but the rest is a disaster. I can't find anything despite things being in Vickie's Vintage and sorted in bins.

There just isn't enough room, to store, play, work or photograph.

This is actually a duplicate post,  from my Somethings:OldNewGreenRedo BLOG.
thought you might want to see what we have been doing.

Here is where we left off on the NEW CRAFT ROOM in the basement last week.
Lots of OLD stuff, tons of mess, and trying to work around it.

oldnewgreenredo
Good news! I sold my wheel a GREEN thing to do and all my ceramics magazines, tools and a big butcher block counter.
Also sold a kiln, that would have been a real hassle to recycle.

The other kiln and miscellaneous has been moved out.
It's in NEW condition for sale,---we are also hoping to find buyers for
100+ ceramic molds, anyone interested in Chicago area or surrounding states, mail me.

oldnewgreenredo

My Etsy shop is open again. This is the now scrambled shipping room. We are going to REDO some organizational things in here. I use a lot of GREEN-RECYCLED materials for shipping, but storing it had reached unmanageable proportions.

I also photograph my OLD vintage items and craft items in here for listing. My bins of stock under the bench are currently inventoried and organized. That was a big project this week. I donated a bin worth of small unsold goodies to charity thrift stores, another GREEN thing.

Where I am standing, I turn around and below is what will be the NEW craft room.

oldnewgreenredo

The ugly 1980's paneling had been chosen because it was the color of the clay and really cheap. lol. We are going right over the top of it, with a nice light barn-board paneling. The below hole will be an open doorway after removing three cement blocks.  On the other side is another huge 'craft workshop' storage room, stuffed with STUFF.

oldnewgreenredo

It's organized over there, but very tight for working. I will---donate or sell at least half. Watch for some real bargains in my Etsy stores in the coming months.
I worked for M'S and HL, so my craft stashes are monumental.

oldnewgreenredo

Back in the NEW craft room.
The outside walls are waterproofed, insulated with 2"thick foam board, and studded.
I can't believe how warm it is down here, now.
It will be really cozy. I can't wait to have crafting parties in this space.

These two walls will be white pegboard on top and paneling on the bottom with chair rail. A long counter will run across the right wall. The left wall will have storage--we are talking about barn doors sliding there. The ceiling may stay undone for quite awhile as we have some first floor bathroom fixtures to REDO sometime in the future. All the water pipes and heat ducting run through this room.

The NEW subfloor is 2'x2' Dri-Core (name brand) panels. On the bottom side is a thick plastic grid for moisture proofing, the top is thick plywood. These inter-lock and provide a solid base for new flooring on irregular concrete surfaces. We use vinyl plank on top---which we love and have in most of the house.

Hubby's goal this week is to get all the paneling and pegboard up, the trim and start the electrical.
My goal, is to reorganize the shipping room. To go through more bins and purge excess or photograph and list it.

The Grand will be here again the end of next week, and the Barbie room upstairs and family room are a disaster. It's always "Fruit Basket UPSET" in your home, when you do Old-New-Green-Redo....anything!

How are your projects coming?

Fabulous Finds: March 2018 Dolls/clothes

Ad-free Blogger

These dolls and clothes are from my March 2018, Craigslist furniture bundle for $15.00.

I don't normally hang on to TNT's or dolls with sticky legs. But this group was in very nice shape and worth some TLC. So everyone got a clean up---and freshened.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This adorable gal is an original Totally Hair Barbie 1991? Her hair was trashed, as you can still be seen in the bangs. I combed an entire brown bunny worth of tangles off her, and braided the rest.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

And Totally Hair Ken (the Hair Dresser) 1991? was in original shape, with a tons of DEP still in his hair. I just combed it loose a bit and gave him a washcloth cleaning.

Add caption

Their original outfits are all freshened. Her set turned out pretty well, but I did trim the bottom about an inch. I dipped her braided hair in VERY hot water for a count of 12 seconds, and then plunged it into ice water. A little kinkier than the original crimped setting, but at least it looks nice. She will be on the do not play with shelf....lol. He looks great though as is in his original set, just lightly combed.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

They are a pretty great looking couple for the 1990's.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

These two girls needed a freshen up and a light comb out...!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This Barbie  is a United Colors of Benneton 1990 (I have the pink socks, just didn't like them with this).
Warning---I washed the outfit in hot water and oxyclean---and all the red flocking disappeared along with 28 years worth of dust. Clearly, this girl had been on display for a long time.
I'd rather have a flockless outfit and no dust. So I will be keeping her as is.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She has an adorable face with ruddy cheeks!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Teen Time Skipper in her original clothes (1988) her hair got a slight trim. I think the Skipper on the right is a Tropical Skipper from 1988 and she is wearing a version of a Skipper- So Active Fashion #7981,1985.

Also in that set were a Tropical Ken and Barbie, but their suits need some work, so pardon  their clean naked bodies.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tropical Ken,Barbie, and Skipper---waiting for their suits to be prepared. (1988)
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Here a couple of more  girls from the same lot. Nothing real special here, all TnT's.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

But, I had all the pieces to this great outfit (Western Fun fashions pack) from the stash. I have to track down the scarf, that might have went with this!  It had no bag. It's really in perfect shape after a good wash.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

A few of the additional clothing pieces I found, all in great condition and freshened. Lots of play and display left in these pieces. I will be looking for the rest of the pink safari outfit--a gold lame??? camisole and trying to figure out what the rest of the pieces are from.

Thanks for looking!

Fabulous Finds: March 2018

AD-FREE  BLOGGER!

Barbie: Old, New, Green, Redo, so I thought I would share some found OLD goodies.

It's no secret I'm a rescuer---aka: a scrounger--anything that can be saved from the landfill. And, I'm not horribly particular about what it is. I usually have plans to REDO everything---for my use and possibly to sell down the road.

I had three large lots of goodies I collected in March for a grand total of $36.99 spent. One from Craig's list $15.00, and three (21.99ish) from my favorite thrift store.

I'm in the process of cleaning, sorting and evaluating what I will keep and what to work on.

The Craig's list lot includes the next 10 pictures. Also in this were dolls and clothes, I'll do in a separate post. Everything was very clean and well cared for from the late 1980's early 90's.

But, I still clean everything when I get it.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

I already have an incomplete set of this, but this is complete and in great condition. Dating this from the late 1980's early 90's. First, I stick many things in the dishwasher. This set was really clean, but a rinse definitely didn't hurt it. The cushions brightened right up in an oxy-clean wash.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

The Sweet Roses table and chairs, will need some glue and new cross pieces underneath. The original chair cushions are really discolored and ugly. I think underneath is a mirror table I can flip this to. We will try that. Lots of little accessories, some in need of new labels. The carousel platter looks great. Cardboard placemats are okay---might keep these for a collector.

This furniture is discolored so after glueing and rebuilding, I will give it a fresh coat of paint, and not pink. Honestly my kitchen table is glowing in the dark right now. I do love all the details on the table.  I may duplicate the stickers and replace them.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

This Ribbons and Roses bed (1987) perked right up when I soaked the linens in an oxyclean solution. My motto --when I don't pay much for anything is wash it in oxyclean and hot water. If it doesn't disintegrate, it usually will look new. This is an excellent example, underskirt, quilt, 2 pillows and a bolster + a cute teddy with a Mattel label that look brand new now.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Even the teddy is fresh and clean now! And the linens look new---I will replace the dingy foam mattress with a new one. The other side of the headboard is a rose pattern, quite art deco--and I will try and REDO that. Not crazy about the lace on the headboard...we will see on that one.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

This 1988 Animal Lovin' safari Scout is really in fabulous condition.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

A pink leopard bumper cover sticker, I will try and keep...with some repair. I think I have the outfit to match. From an earlier advertisement, the sides had pink leopard stickers also. I will try and print some sticky paper to print and use to revive this.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

A Barbie refrigerator from the same period 1987-9 with all the shelves and compartments. The door is not hooked on, but this will be an easy fix to make the hinges permanently work.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Two Barbie Vinyl carriers came with this Craig's List lot, which was like 5 miles away and only $15.00. They were heavily used, as all the vinyl cases were. Cute graphics on one of a Barbie Store, which I will use as a backdrop for photos.

The Workout Center (1985) is almost complete. Included was the very nice locker---equipment, the slant board weight-lift thingy. Missing the pull handle, but I think we can improvise.
Some paint and it will be all fresh again.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

From the same set a cool exercise bike, complete and works well.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Backside of the workout locker is a mirrored barre. Also in the box was this small crib...sides go up and down.

MY favorite thrift store lots follow, plus there were also clothes and accessories for another post.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

This camping set was all dismantled and in a bag.  Cooler top is missing, but otherwise, pretty complete. I think this is really recent, but the safari hat might be from the Scout jeep.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

This travel bag came with the Sweet Roses lot---well worn cardboard passport --Ken and Barbie, must have really traveled a lot. This needs a light dip and I will weight it down to dry to uncurl the 'leather', otherwise very nicely made.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

A newer Cool kitchen set---nice fridge needs a couple of shelves (I may have in my spare parts). Door has great cubbies and all the food necessities.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sink unit, missing the faucet (I have one somewhere, but the dishwasher is complete,
and had dishes in it).

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

This cute kitchen 3pc I think has real possibilities with the nice shelves. I can see this in a sleeker neutral look. Abolish the pink, and my dolls will be able to live with it. I like the chair, I may have to ebay a few that match.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

I can't wait to realistically paint these trays of PINK food...! Mattel really---pink food?

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Old Barbie doctor set---incomplete, but cute cardboard stuff. Especially nice case. Assuming this is from late 1980s.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Another bag held this setup and accessories. Some funky portraits circa  the Western age.

A Barbie Beauty Parlor. Double sink that actually drains water into the middle bin.
Missing the tilting chairs, which I will look for.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lots of fun accessories...quite complete....

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

A fabulous dryer chair, and a barbie portfolio?

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

More accessories...

Quite a haul, I think. I know it will fun to work on when I have my new Doll Craft room.
I will work some tutorials and the REDO's.
