BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO--JUST A GRANNY HAVING FUN WITH DOLLS< DIORAMAS STORIES AND DIY

BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO

A New Doll landed on my Fall Buffet

 Ad-Free Blog

Hi! This year has been disruptive, hectic, and intense. I've been unable to do much gardening, we are surrounded with totes and bins in every room that still needed to be dealt with. Our  house is a fright and that may be its state for another two months.

Yesterday a package arrived of a 'great buy'; a doll I didn't even know was being made. One of my favorite actresses, Helena Bonham Carter, a Mattel doll made for the Harry Potter series. Her character is Bellatrix LeStrange...the  insane and dangerous witch vilan-ess.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Apparently she was at her best in the HPotter film, dark, daring, the perfect part for her. (I confess I fell asleep in the first movie, and haven't seen any of the others) But, the dolls from the series are so interesting. Fully articulated and actually look like the actors themselves. I love the white bits in her fluffy hair and signature curls.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mattel outdid themselves, she is gorgeous. I adjusted her skirt, sheathed her wand, and let her cast magic on my buffet which is the only thing really decorated for Fall in our disaster home.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I just had to share, that I'm decorating a bit, but not really, except for the lovely Witch on my Buffet.
I may have to see that second HP movie!

Isn't she GORGEOUS!?!

Girls Townhouse: Grinding slow on FINDING everything and putting it back together!

 AD-Free Blog

Our fruit-basket upset continues. Six months later, I'm still trying to find parts of all my displays and dioramas. This week I found a tote that was a total mix-up when we packed up the basement in February to finish some areas.

I spent sometime rewiring the girls' townhouse and reworking the furniture and linens a bit. At least I think so. This is a work in progress...and definitely not a finished diorama.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The Girls' Townhouse is really two townhouses put together. The story is, it's Vickie's Old Townhouse she rents out. The girls living there are now, top left-Zoe who works at Vickie's, Mulan finished her Doctorate and teaches at the Art Institute, the seated blonde is Gilly, an air-head Zoomba instructor, and up top is Teresa, neighborhood newscaster for Channel 7 Chicago.
They are all working and living reasonably in a very high rent area of  N. of the Loop, Chicago.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: I'll be done in just a minute, Gilly. The class assignments must be posted for the the weekend, or we will be behind again this semester.

Gilly: Same here, I have to post the next two weeks classes.

Teresa: (up in the bunk) Don't feel bad, I've got expense reports for the last quarter to finish...up here on my laptop.

Gilly: I'm hungry, but I hate to go down and wake up Carly...anyone have any snacks?

Zoe: I left the laptop at work, so I don't have to anymore tonight.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Downstairs, Carly is asleep---who is getting married in October. She's zonked out because she worked a full day, and then had three dance classes full of under 6-year olds.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

One of the new additions here is a new floor---I finally made a pattern for the entire floor because I ripped out the second set of kitchen cabinets on the right side. This gives more 'living' space, which I'm still experimenting with.
I added a new layer of foam core on the floor for a level surface. The new foam core and new paneled flooring from Dollar Tree stuck-um sheets, it took 3sheets to do this entire floor. I just added more lines to make it look like wide-plank and drew some cross pieces to make it look like 8" x 48" panel flooring.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Biggest upgrade down here was the lighting: I added two strips of Ledberg lighting from IKEA(looks like they have been discontinued). Honestly for permanent or semi permanent installations this type of lighting is ideal. Low profile and no batteries being burned up.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The color schemes are still a bit crazy---Lavender walls, turquoise counter types, and built-ins. I added the pantry to the right.  I added a pink pantry shelf behind there. It's simply foam core covered in Dollar Tree permanent stick-um. This is actually a shiny pale pink, which is almost the same shade as the cabinet.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The large, too pink, refrigerator fits perfect in the second doorway, but it needs to be a new color.  I'm leaving the tv/computer station here, but it may get a coat of paint.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Here's a closeup showing the extra lines for the planking, I also added 'peg dots' for holding it down.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Finally have chairs that match. Not sure what color they will need up when I finally paint. I'm thinking of painting the counters and eliminating the turquoise downstairs. Seating for four, maybe five in a pinch with table and chairs that all need to be painted.
The table is a wood circle (Walmart) on a metal candle holder from a thrift store, one of my go-to sources for larger tables.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Upstairs one bathroom is just a shower and sink.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Back behind Zoe's bed is the second bath:shower, sink and toilet, exactly like the other one. I haven't figured out how to wall it off or not.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm still thinking through the floor plan. I think some more built-ins on the right would work well, especially by the front door. The second stair way next to the panty will work for a coat closet. The second turquoise table can be used for food or work.

Working from home really means you have to have places for your dolls to fulfill their jobs.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Gilly: I love living here, four or sometimes five gals paying rent is thrifty, and the girls are great. We have everything we need in this neighborhood. I walk to my two locations for classes, and also we are one block from the park. Now if we could figure out more storage for clothes, but isn't that everyone's problem?

Fall 2023 at Vickie's Vintage

 Ad-Free Blog

Hi, I'm Carly, assistant manager at Vickie's Vintage. Now that the hot summer NEON days have past, it is time for back-to-school and back to work. Many offices are re-opening to full-time schedules, so the sweat pants and tee-shirts of the Covid Era are OVER.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

On the carousel we are featuring a classic teacher's outfit, complete with accessories. Don't you love the red shoes with this.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Another red addition is forever red, Hello Kitty complete with purse or coordinated bag.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

We have more excitement in some graphic tee-dresses, accessorize with a belt and jacket and it's perfect for the office or schoolroom.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Here's another...orange is one of my favorite colors, and I love the brown tones on this dress.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

For a little sparkle or work, two outfits in denim, always a classic.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Of course it is all about accessories, from hats, to bags, to luggage.

These greens and earth tones are great with all the beiges and grays shown on the runways.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Don't forget blues...and golds.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Short boots have invaded our shoe shelves, and we have lots of choices.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

New bags have arrived from a Chicago designer. Add some boots for a classic look.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Of course we have matching shoes, isn't this perfect for your lunch, files and computer?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

After this summer, I think PINK will be with us forever. How about these custom purses and shoes?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

We aren't displaying a lot of black this year, but more as an accent.

Zoe is upstairs in the bridal salon.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm Zoe, your Bridal Manager ready to assist you with all your formal and party needs.

Champagne colors will be big again this year!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

And of course sparkles, how about textures on this pink champagne knit dress, so fun.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Here's an almost lavender version and of course don't forget our GUYS.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Our guys have been stepping away from the more formal versions and going for striking and understated.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Of course it is all about our model in pale pink and silver...so classic. We have many choices for school formals also.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

If your special event requires a dose of 'DUDE' we have that also, from jackets, printed suits.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I think this is the only bit of NEON we have in the shop right now...but it is so cool, and the orange brings it right into Fall.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

For back to work or the classroom, we have updated  classics. Leather with chinos, and more.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

White shirts or of course black tees with a sport coat...and you are definitely  in step.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Olive and black, perfect for Fall!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Don't forget to make your bridal appointments so you can get the best attention we can provide for your special events.

And, visit the website for sales and new additions. Have our shipping department take care of your online purchases, or pick them up here.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm Vickie and on behalf of Zoe and Carly, we say thank you for your continued support and come on in and see our new Fall offerings at Vickie's Vintage.

Also our lower level Resort Shop will be reopening on Friday. EL has been working hard to get the shop ready and all our guys will be pleased with selections for day or night, play and work.
We also hope to have a pop-up store for October and Halloween!
SEE YOU SOON!
