BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO--JUST A GRANNY HAVING FUN WITH DOLLS< DIORAMAS STORIES AND DIY

BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO

A Little Vintage, Barbie!

Barbie is coming up on 60 years old...and she's still THE Bomb!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She's wearing a vintage dress, backwards, it's a cowl neck on the front, but this is a bit more interesting. But, she still is dressing for her age, assuming she was 18 in 1959, so that makes her 77. I wish I looked this good!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

My no.3 Has all her original paint--and brown shadow, which is rare. I try to keep her 'actual age' in mind when dressing her. Would even a well preserved, classy 77 year old wear this?

I also keep her jewelry to a minimum, and remove earrings immediately. She has no green ear, as my mother immediately removed her 'hooker' earrings, lol.

I've softened her hairstyle a bit, I had unfortunately cut her hair when I was 13. This soft almost mohair--hair really shredded and didn't stand up well to water play. But her bangs are still great!

Original pony tails only have hair plugs around the perimeter of the the hairline---so no other option for the hair, other than up.

I love how her expression changes with the tilt of her head.
"You bet, I'm still the Bomb!"

Crazy weather here in Chicago...so she chose a animal friendly fur!
Dress is undetermined, I think it's from some department store collection from the late 70's or early 80's. It has snaps.
Sling-backs are contemporary. Faux fur is a handmade unlined version, found as is, no idea of age.

Now it's snowing...we'll have to find our boots!

All the opinions and photographs on this blog are my own, unless otherwise stated.

I have not been paid or reimbursed in anyway for my opinions
or products shown, or from where I shop.

The dolls shown are from my own and the Grand's collection as are the clothes,
which are vintage, or made by myself. Occasionally, i falter and buy something new.

November Windy City Meeting-Midge Bash!

Hi All, Windy City Collectors BDC met in Northlake, Illinois, last Thursday. Honestly these meetings are so much fun!
Business for the night included picking themes for next year's monthly meetings.

Jacqui shared a quartette of gorgeous 'Harlem Renaissance' to support her theme for one month next year. This will be great to get our creative juices going.

Since the theme was MIDGE BASH,

Merrilee brought 310 Midges----most dressed vintage (most shoeless---for sanity sake) in all the wonderful stages of Midge. It was a lot of fun peering at all those freckles. Seems Merrilee started collecting with Midge and has never let up.

I really couldn't get a shot of all 310 of them. Each one dressed different!--that's 310 doll stands too!

I must say I am partial to the redheads---but all colors of hair look great with Midge's classic pageboy, so popular in 1963 during her debut to the Barbie Family.
This doll had such a sweet unique face.

Here is a trio of Midges---all with different owners and hair colors. You can really see the difference in their 'matching' outfits, depending on the cut of the same cloth. The stripes can fall anywhere. Sorry the pic is fuzzy---dodging so many others grabbing this shot.

This little Coconut Dancer...cracked me up---she was right up front shaking those 'maracas'.

My favorite though was Midge in these great pajamas...and the adorable bunny slippers. Midge holds a stuffed dog-----too cute.

There were plenty of originally boxed Midges' too.

I brought my little scene to share. Allan and Midge picking out the Christmas tree.

My Midge (2013-Anniversary) has a Steffie face mold---I wonder why Mattel chose this, perhaps to update her look for the "In the Dreamhouse" series. This Midge has the adorable freckles and real eyelashes, her long hair is currently up, and her bangs choose their own direction.

Midge chooses a tree with old beau, Allan(1964-66 version)---who hasn't change one iota in this anniversary version. He is so skinny compared to current Kens.

REDO: Their matching vest and jacket are ornaments from Michael's, with a little creative trimming and glue cover-up---they make perfect coats and vests for the Barbie Family.

How many Midge's do you have?---original or the newer versions? What about Happy Family Midge or pregnant Midge?

Junkin for Barbie October2018

Junkin' for Dolls

I know I have found way more than this...but this was the collection from last week. Since my Blog will be Barbie-Old, New, Green, Redo, I'm always on the lookout for items to use for dioramas, redo or eventually resell.

Some pretty diverse items in this batch. The first thing that screams at you is the pink couch, which I will paint and slip cover. A how-to-do of this exact couch is here on an older post on my other blog.

I'm totally in love with this sweet Spring table all set to decorate eggs and baskets for Easter. Lots of details, which are all glued down. Plan here is to make two table tops---one for everyday and this one. One table side bottom is already loose, so that shouldn't be an issue. I'll post that as a how-to.  It has a sweet matching stool.
Perfect size for the Stacie/Chelsea dolls.

Another Adirondack chair in white. Can't really have too many of these in any color. The mirrored tray below is a generous size---I hope to redo the legs and sell in my Etsy shop---or I will use for photos. It has flecked gold in the mirror---so 1950's.

I've been on the lookout for this generous sized-bench with heavy stoney finish. Finally found one and---it immediately went to the exterior of Vickie's Vintage. Maybe will eventually sit in the garden of the refurbished Barbie Grand Hotel----my project for this winter.

The porcelain blue vases are also destined for the Hotel as they are a little larger. With the hotel's blue windows---I intend to do gray/white on everything else. These will be perfect!

Behind is the sweet green dresser/jewelry box, and has a Celtic theme. Lovely shamrocks are carved into the top. It has a perfect green stained finish and a great size. I will finish off the inside of the drawers and hopefully find a buyer.

The birdcage ornament will go the Grand, it's perfect for her DIY dollhouse, shown in this OLD POST.  We built this house from scratch for her three years ago.

Tis' the Season, and I picked up this Hallmark Barbie ornament quite reasonably, still in the plastic casing inside and with the paperwork.

If you are a doll collector or play with dolls, thrift shops are wonderful for picking up accessories and diorama pieces for your doll world.
ALL YOU have to do--just think small!

Thanks always for visiting.
