Tales of a Number FOUR Barbie, a Love Story

Ad-Free Blog

It's no secret I'm a $THRIFT$ shopper, but I seldom fall in love with anything, be it antiques, clothing or dolls. BUT THIS TIME...it was love at first sight$$$$$$

Yesterday, I needed to do the Post Office, get a haircut and definitely hit the GoodWill. Very low in stock, I really didn't hold out a lot of hope as I roamed the aisles. But, in the toy aisle tossed amongst all the mutilated Disney girls and a few playlines were these toes sticking out.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Hmmmmm, intrigued I grabbed the doll prepared for a WEIRD Disaster Barbie, and a heavy body followed. I figured she might be a reproduction I had never held before. She had a normal naked doll price sticker???? confusion on that one.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I squinted in the dim light in that aisle---and well, I knew it was a Barbie, but...not until I got outside in the car and blew up the photo and could clearly see
the Pats Pending CMLVIII (1958)
This is the photo after enhancing, she was so clean you couldn't see the letters until I way upped the contrast and deepened the shadows.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The orangey/yellow hair threw me a bit,  but, she was gorgeous with (slightly dirty and discolored face), very intact everywhere, straight legs, No.4....I figured she had to be a 4 or 5. 1960 to 62? For real she is a no.4 with the braided ponytail and probably was dressed in Senior Prom #951, and probably 1960-61since she has the heavy solid torso.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Her legs are tight and straight, no wobbly ankles. She had been used, but perhaps just for display and then stored for a very long time.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

NO GREEN ANYWHERE! Her face is a bit greasy which is common with these dolls, but I'm sure we can get her clean and de-greased. Only a teeny-bit of black is missing on the right eye, and then the missing lip color.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nothing on the neck, her arms work and hold a pose, no gashes or discolorations... and her hair was rumpled because the bands were gone, thankfully not disintegrated and all stuck in the hair. The texture is firmer than my no.3, but still the soft, soft type of hair.

Each of the hair hanks for the originally braid are clearly still there, so freshening should be easy if I am super gentle, and the curled bangs will be fine when redone.

Pinterest

Here's what her hair should/will look like. I can't wait to get her cleaned up and touch up those lips and that one eye. Some dolls were very tightly braided, but, I love this style and will do that, an the shiny blonde should look great.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Gorgeous nails and hands. No teething, scrapes or stains on these at all.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
Not even stained feet, but clearly marked Japan. Look at those classic calves.

PHEW...I hope your heart is beating a bit faster, I know mine is.

Here's Senior Prom #951, Mattel made this dress through 1963. Now, I have to look for one, it has been on my wish list for awhile anyway!
Photo from Fashion doll guide.com

Fashion doll Guide is a great source for identification of vintage Barbies and resources.

Honestly,  I really had a heart attack..right there in the parking lot.
But, thankfully not, but it was with a BIG SMILE!
This will definitely be a
BarbieOldNewGreenRedo Project.

A FEW MINUTES AWAY from the MESS!

Ad-Free Blog

One of the saving graces of the total remodel upset, is I'm dealing with every single tiny bit of stuff I've acquired in the doll room. I found these cute un-labeled shorts---with the zipper and thought, wow---early Barbie.

So I grabbed Babs (repro) and figured she would be able to fit them... or so we thought.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
barbieoldnewgreenredo
Hmmmmmmmmmm....?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Do these look like they fit in the back?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Have I gained weight?
 NO! They must have shrunk!

Of course Babs is like some of us trapped in the house for the long Chicagoland winter. We are still experiencing nightly frosts and snow flurries in the middle of the day (yesterday) INSANE! Honestly though, the hook and eye are missing on the inside of the shorts which I will replace,---but her look, just says it all! LOL.

I'm working hard also in trying to find all my inventory for my Etsy shop and also listing many doll items for when it opens. I will have to do a complete inventory before opening the shop---which usually takes two days, UGH!

Poor hubby has been tiling, building, repairing and we both have been painting..but the basement is still a total UPSET which is the nicest way I can put it---while swearing under my breath. We will be putting in a 1/2 bathroom in the storage room as well as a slop sink. It's only a few feet away from my doll room, and now I won't have to worry about splattered water or paint near my dolls or dioramas!

Hugs to you all...hope these cute photos gave you a chuckle, Sandi.

Woot! Doll Vintage finds and 2 new guys!

Ad-Free Blog
Hi, there! I finally hit a couple of thrift stores in a new area and found lots of goodies, plus my friend just moved, and little stashes she found over the last year reappeared. Bonanza!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The smalls here are from her---never turn down dishes, glasses, and love the andirons. The Blue chair will get used somewhere, but I will add legs below cause they are just too low!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I bought some goodie bags of clothes---and these Kelly and Tommy, which is a plus.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
One of the bags had this little box of very vintage baby items. Everything looks to be mattel, I think. Love the school ox and composition book that opens.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

A few kitchen items, which I appreciate, as I will have so many kitchens eventually and my gang does like to eat...strange box of fries?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

A rabbit hutch? and a vintage doll bed for Foofie or the other mutts in the HFIM house.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

A sweet doily, etc...and the etch-sketch works...!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I have been on a clothes drought. I bought five bags, and wow...there are some pieces in here. Only a few were a bit soiled. Couple things need new snaps, easy fix.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

With so many dolls in stories, I need many changes, lots of everyday clothes.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ken suit--always appreciated, drum major costume, a few pants and a bunch of skater outfits??? Pleathor pants that are starting to melt...though they look good.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm actually happy with the everyday clothes there were 5 white tops of various styles, which will help! A few Fashion Fever and Fashion Avenue pieces in here, I wish I had bought all the bags now.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Also found the PERFECT wicker pieces, with no cushions, but easy fix.
I ordered two articulated dolls, the new Jack the Lamplighter (Lin-Manuel Miranda) who is absolutely adorable. He has so much character and I love his smile, clothes and shoes. He seems to be a bit slighter...I won't know until I get his outfit off.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

and a wheel chair Ken to replace the play-line basic blonde Ken that I made the mannikin from. He is a bit different...just looks like he has been on vacation and a has some more hair-so he will be Kevin in the HFIM house and is welcomed.
The single chair is missing it's ottoman, but who knows that piece may show up some day! The articulated KEN drought might be over, he is a bit tan, so I will match his body to heads and maybe order a few more and then have a wheel chair sale.

Clearly the BMR59 Pony tail guy's body matches no one. I do like him with a hair cut!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nor does this gal. Although she is growing on me, now.

What goodies have you found or ordered???

Thanks for viewing and feel free to ask me any questions or inquiries, and I will get back to you.

BMR in Classic Black and White

Ad-Free Blog
Barbara M Roberts is in town visiting one of her many properties, the Grand View shops and Condos. It's late in the day, but the Patisserie lights are still on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Ms. Roberts is wearing Barbie Avon Talk of the Town, 2003. The purse is the same fabric, but from either a Fashion Fever or a Fashion Avenue. The purse has pink stitching on the handle and a small pink bow which I hid on the backside.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(I'm missing the big sweeping hat...I will have to try and make one. The Grand View (Mattel redo Grand Hotel) has winter decorations still up. Lights are on in the Patisserie. )

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Look at all these Valentine offerings, nummy! Maybe Sindy is still open?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Luckily, BMR has her mask and goes in.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Hello, Sindy. Everything looks so delicious. How has business been?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sindy: We've done okay, with people not wanting to take public transportation, the neighborhood has supported us since opening. It's so nice to see you again, Ms. Roberts. How is L.A.?

BMR: I've been staying at my place in Tahoe, and thank you. I know I haven't been able to travel much, but I flew in before the snow and am just finishing up some business this week. Lara seems to have everything under control for BMR, here in Chicago.

Sindy: Lara is great, she makes sure we have everything we need in this building. Well, have a safe trip back to LA.

BMR: I'm not leaving until Friday. We have two new projects, I still need to visit. See you soon and I love your Valentine displays!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: I'm so glad I managed to get to visit the Grand View. I love the plantings, I will have to make sure the florist does my other projects.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Now, my driver should be here in just a minute.

Cast:

BMR: Barbie No.3 1959-60
Sindy: Hunger Games 20012-13

Setting: Grand View (Mattel Grand Hotel redo)

Thanks for viewing and feel free to ask me any questions or inquiries, and I will get back to you.

Winter Sale at Vickie's Vintage!

Ad-free Blog

Well, when the weather outside is frightful, what do Chicagoland girls do?
Go Shopping, and what is better than Sale shopping!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Dressed for ugly winter weather, the girls line up in front of Vickie's.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

We really cleaned the place out! Everyone has a bag full of some wonderful bargains! Of course, Vickie's is always full of great vintage wear!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

DeeDee has joined the group, she is a Tall, no,123 playline.
I bought her because of her hair, and she will be looking for a new body...? She's wearing Sparklz capris from last year, I made the white turtleneck and the fur vest which is nice and long for her. She is unnamed at the moment!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Another new girl on the left is a petite MTM, I gave her a haircut, and she is also unnamed. I took advantage of low prices when I was doing my online Christmas shopping. Adding a few MTM's in, to get free shipping. Prices were fluctuating greatly on various dolls at Target and Walmart online. So, I ordered quite a few for their articulated bodies.

Anyway she is quite sweet, and she is wearing the very short and small, Fashion Fever Winter blue Closet over metallic dotted stretch pants. It's too cool in Chicago to have bare legs!
The scarf is a Vickie's Vintage hand-made special!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

My goodness, where does Carly shop when she isn't working at Vickie's?
Vickie's Vintage of course. Carly(Nikki doll from Dream House series) wears a Target sweater from 2018 and some mommy-made vintage leggings!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Midge from Life in the Dream House wears, Twice as Nice #2295 white pants, vintage Silver boots and a Sparklz coat/dress from 2019. Her purse has the Barbie logo, and I have no idea how old it is.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish from Divergent wears my WindyCityBDollCollectors club's 60th Barbie birthday party pants, and the outfit I've lost the info on. The boots I think belong with this outfit, with pom-poms removed, and the sparkle purse-I have no source for, it is soft plastic with a small purple flower if anyone knows?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

"Babs" is Wedding Day 1961 Repro...wearing the WCBDCollector's Sweater ,
Jacket is another one I have lost the source for---though it is 90's I believe.
Her pants are the fireman pants from 2017? And vintage riding boots, this makes for a toasty outfit!

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Babs: Let's go get some Irish coffee and a nosh---before we walk home!

DeeDee: Sounds good to me!

Thank you for visiting, I will try and respond to every question and comment.
