Spring at Vickie's and a bit of Gossip?

Monday March 27 at Vickie's Vintage

Vickie and her staff have been working hard to bring in Spring inventory intoVickie'sVintage.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle has stopped by for a visit, while the store isn't open until Tuesday.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: The Open Houses were a success and we had at least fourteen  contracts on the townhouse and nine on the mansion. It was crazy. They are still sorting through the bids and seeing where it all ends.

Vickie: Well that is great for the whole neighborhood, seems the Hotel remodel has really started a huge change for the neighborhood. I think Trish has contracted for a store front down the block beside the garden center. It's not very big, but there is a huge garage behind in the alley, with a mini-studio.

Richelle: Oh, that will be great for Trish. She spends too much time in her truck. I'm just happy to have some time off, since the remodels were so crazy.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: How's married life treating you and Ryan. Have you found a place yet?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: (sighing) No, we keep getting outbid on anything in our price bracket. The market is still insane. I think we will have to settle for a pitiful fixer-upper, only live in it as a fixer. We might have a chance at a one bedroom at the Grand View(Barbie Grand Hotel remodel), if Ken gets a different place.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: We are really tired of living in a basement.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Elle: Oh, me too, I finally found a hole in the wall to share with a friend, it's so tiny though. Vickie, how about a steam punk hat for this dress, and maybe a skirt swag?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: How about you do a steam punk vacation couple downstairs, for when we  open---or explorers?

El: Hmmmmm..., maybe!

Vickie: (turning to Richelle) I can imagine, still in a basement? How crowded is it at that rental?
Richelle: Well, there's Ryan and I in the basement with Ken. Not so bad, Ken stays at the hospital half the time. Midge, Barbie, Chelsea, and we even had Mulan and Sindy for a week, while they were showing the mansion.

Sindy hopes to take Lara's condo right above the bakery when the next BMR project allows Lara to move on. Mulan is looking for a storefront to start her own design business with a partner, with possible sleeping quarters.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Elle: I'm going to make sure I turned the lights off in the basement.

Everything is set for Spring.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Spring shoes are all set up!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Pastel cotton dresses, now if it will only warm up!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: I can't wait to see the Guys and Resort boutique downstairs. When are you going to open.

Elle: Thursday this week. We are still waiting on one more shipment it is supposed to arrive tomorrow, then we will be set.

Richelle: Great! Ryan definitely needs a few things. He's back to the office at least three days a week, and well, he has gained a bit of weight since we are married, so his office clothes are a bit tight.

Elle: I'm sure we will have some great 'couture', (lol) for him.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: Well, it is always great shopping at Vickie's. i may have to have those shoes and purse, such a pretty shade of blue for Spring!

Diorama: Vickie's Vintage designed and made by me.
All fixtures are thrift store finds, or crafted from such.
Search Vickie's Vintage for posts on fixtures.

Clothes and accessories: 90% of all the clothes and accessories were found in thrift shops. It's hard to identify things, when you find them here and there and not together in 'sets'.

Dolls:
Vickie was a thrift shop find and is in Vintage 90's Barbie top and Sparklz leggings.
Richelle was also a thrift shop find, she is in leggings from my doll club, a vintage shell(90's) and a Fashion Fever cotton jacket.

Elle is a Mattel New Look (first wave) petite, she is wearing Sparklz outfit.(and she is really short-lol)
Wedding Dress: Vintage 90's, was in a dress pack.

Spring Dresses: are all Vintage Mattel, (one is Bugs Bunny the other two are from the 90's fashion packs,  I believe.

Are your dolls ready for Spring?

Recently Acquired Dolls: Old- thrift store and New- from the Box.

Hi, Doll Friends and hugs, we all need that!!!

I have so few 'grail' dolls on my list...and one of them has been one of the Hudson Bay dolls. We had several antique Hudson Bay Blankets in our family, which I eventually sold, (I'm terribly allergic to wool) for a very pretty penny. And, I have regretted it ever since.

Hudson Bay is part of our countries' history, both Canada and the US. Ever since the very North America's earliest fur trading, these iconic blankets have been treasured and kept people warm.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

About 5-6 times a year, I get to a Tuesday Morning, and look what was lurking behind all the dolls way on the back wall. Snagged her for $29.99.
Love the box, packaging and everything else. Couldn't wait to open her and get her out of that box.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

OMG___what a pain. Since I seldom buy a boxed doll-most of mine are thrift store finds and are naked. This one was a REAL pain...! WHAT is the purpose of sewing hair to a hunk of plastic????

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I do love the box back and saved it in my diorama background stack!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Okay, I finally got her out of the plastic and removed all the rubber bands and threads and then the hat and glasses were really sewn on her head in three places---with icky brown thread? WHY?

I felt like a surgeon with my surgical scissors trying to clip all that. There were also 6 plastic tabs imbedded in her head___SIX! Those had to be clipped down to the skull several times.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She looks cooly relaxed after all that---I tucked her hat into her fanny pack. Who wants hat hair? LOL!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She's got a different sculpt and a bit of slant to her eyes which are 'hazel'???, and a bit of teeth showing, and some major eyebrows. Love the details in the jacket, well worth the purchase price, with the matching oar!
I haven't named her yet, trying to figure out where she might fit into my doll stories, in Chicagoland.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She has that soft highlighted saran? hair. There were lots of odd bits hanging here and there, not trimmed well at all. I did snip those strays off. Would she be worth the price floating around on the secondary markets, I don't know. But $29.99 was palatable.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I got this guy last fall and he was stuck in his box, and I don't think I have used him at all. Do you ever not bond with a doll? I have found it hard to warm up to him. His complexion is very light, with that scruffy face and light blond hair...he just seems uninspiring-and pale. I dressed him in some brighter colors?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I don't know if I would have ordered him if I had seen clearly how the back and rest of his head was. The flocking is a bit bizarre---and you can see a Letter Number impression in the back of his head through the flocking- GTD50 or SO?? Really, I think that is...just a bit weird.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I do like the body on these dolls and for $19.99 they are a good investment to re-body for other dolls.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Well, adding a bit of color helped  his personality.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Then I stood him with Hudson Bay girl and they might make a very nice couple...maybe they will be newly arrived Canucks to my Dollstories.

Now, that the HFIM house is dissolved, I have to come up with a new name for the neighborhood????

Well, back to thrifting.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

My son and daughter-in-love showed up with a box of dolls. I picked three out of the box...and this little gal was in there. Mattel made, and she is a Ginny or Hermione? 2012 from the Harry Potter series...gosh, time flies.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She was naked and her hair was a fright, but she didn't have a mark on her and her joints are all nice and tight. Those freckles and smile...love it. The hair needed more than a good brushing....and it still a wild child's hair, and needs a trip to Jacquie's for a trim.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I have the other HP girl also...so they will fit right in with Skipper/Chelsea girl group which has become a gaggle at this point.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I dressed her with odds and ends from the 'young' ones  box. All clothes for this size dolls are found in thrift bags or made by me. She looks pretty cute in this cobbled outfit and barbie tennis shoes. I know there are Bratz, Monster High and EverAfter clothes in that box, but some fit nicely---just hard to figure out what they originally were. I do love the Monster High/Bratz accessories.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This 'KEN' guy was in the box from my kids (PS_--they took 10 of my stray blonde wonders back with them out of my stash in trade to resell, a definite plus!
barbieoldnewgreenredo

This is the first time I have seen this guy up close. He's a very dark vintage 1970's Malibu Ken, in perfect condition, but was naked. I thought he had been re-bodied, but the color was too close, That miss-connect on his head to neck bothered me, but researching, I see that all of them look like that.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

No wonder he wore turtle-necks at that time, clearly a miss for Mattel on a whole line of dolls. This is a contemporary Ken shirt from a few years ago--and it is really tight on this beefy dude!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

He's very muscular and his legs click perfectly---and no slimy plastic. He's different and I will eventually use him in stories. The tan is definitely out of place in Chicagoland--we are all pale this time of year!

internet

Another boxed doll, she even came barefoot, like real dancers in Thailand perform.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

From 1997, she was 'win' doll group prize.  She came in the box, Thailand dancer from Dolls around the World. I quickly checked her legs as she is from that time when the legs disintegrated in some dolls trapped in boxes for 30-40 some years.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Her legs were perfect, so I carefully stored her authentic costume, and redressed her, with thrift store finds.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Her hair rubber band had dissolved and was all stuck to her glued hair. I brushed it out...so the rubber wouldn't disintegrate even further.
She's really lovely, such a pretty and vivid face paint.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm thinking she may become  one of a flock of Filipino nurses I may introduce in Dr. Ken's office. We have so many lovely Filipino nurses in the Chicago area-so efficient and caring. Her arms are an issue for me in posing,...but her legs bend perfectly.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

My last two, Liam Neeson on the right arrived with the outfit on the left. I picked him up at an antique mall for $4.99. His outfit was clean, super boots, but the details (belt, weapon) were missing. He's very beefy-even for a GI Joe type doll and has a great head of hair. I did color his too light skull (hair is done in far apart layers) with gold sharpie which blends in nicely, now. His rubber band had disintegrated also. I may trim his hair a bit shorter ---we will see, but he has a mature look, which is always nice to add to my group.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This handsome guy is a later action toy with gloves that are removable and I will have to find him hands. I need to do a longer search and a good scan of his info on the back. I think he may be an 'assembled' action figure---with different pieces purchased to make him...we will see? His head does match his body color, very well.?
Always a puzzle tracking these guys down.

Meanwhile he came with the clothes on Liam, which wasn't much, snow patrol pants a turtle neck and an old US Army shirt, and great boots, he is still wearing.

Have you found any Doll BARGAINS or Thrift Store Finds this winter??
