Doll Closets: Part 2

Hi, Lara says, "Closets are the Number One thing clients want in their new digs."

Just what BMR, Ltd tries to provide in their buildings. Through my dioramas.

Lara (BMR's niece) has the most career goals of my dolls. She manages the Chicago office of BMR Ltd., an investment/realestate company that manages properties and remodels old 'Mattel' properties. 

Here is the townhouse that Ken and Barbie bought after BMR bought as townhouse and redesigned as a expanded Townhouse. Of course there is lots of storage and closets. The green bedroom is Dr. Ken and Barbie's bedroom and closet/office.

Here is the wood cutlery box....painted white, yes, it fits perfect. This area was actually an outdoor patio with a hot tub. But offices and closets are a must for today's working parents.,

Poles added and storage bins, perfect for 2...and a little bench for reaching the high up bins.

Chelsea's closet is one of the oldest pieces I have, it has been used by everyone. It fits very well in her small room, which is adjacent to a sitting room on the second floor. Again, small bins are used for small items.

Just enough room for a bed, wardrobe closet, table and folding wall! 

The single ladies' townhouse is quite packed...storage is at a premium, with 4 or sometimes 5 gals. A handy cube storage is at the door, and the stairway to the left of that may become a coat closet. I have two town houses stuck together here with one new floor on the down stairs level.

 

This is another doll wardrobe...short but workabel, it's been painted and of course containers for shoes. 4 Gals sharing a large bedroom is a puzzle.

It's tight, but with one bathroom, the other is used for a closet, LOL, basically out-of-sight for photos, so they have enough room. 

The basic 'first' doll closet is to use a shoebox, or a photo box and put a pole in it....and you have a nice deep closet. This was the guys' apartment in the old HFIM house.

A built in drawer and it held a lot of clothes.

Of course bunkbeds are great when you are single, young with college debts and starter jobs. 4 guys shared this level in a huge double bunkbeds.

Chris and Rob's Victorian Mansion.

This was another one that was disrupted in the basement mess, but here it is put back together. Chris and Rob got a redone bedroom. Their closet is also a cutlery box, but translucent plastic. Perfect for their more modern aesthetic.

All I had to do was add poles which I painted silver, and small containers for shoes, and jeans below. Great use of space in a small room. There is also under-bed storage also.

Below the twins' bedroom in the V Mansion.

 Here is the closet for the 'twins', Scooter and Skipper. 

Bunkbeds are perfect, and they have a desk area.

This was a wood cutlery box, sawed in half to just fit under the eaves of the Victorian Mansion. 

Poles were added and small plastic colored totes for shoes, etc.

What is the only purchsed closet, my $10.00 find at a thrift store.

Can you imagine, even the ribbons were in this...I need to wash them, but it' is immaculate, except for the smallest scratch on the brass plate...I had wanted to use this for BMR...but it is so huge...maybe someday.

My Dolls who have Closets!

I had a small wood/cardboard suitcase like this for my Muffy/Ginny dolls, so figure since 1953-4. I got my first Barbie in 1960, and of course she needed that suitcase for all her clothes...I sewed. 

 But, now Barbara M Roberts of BMR Ltd, (my first Barbie) is in my doll stories. And that poor case, has long since disintegrated, so the whole doll room has become HER's and all her friends' Closets. 

My very first 'new' contemporary Barbie doll, I found in a thrift store to play with the Grandgirl, who named her Richelle and a jointed Ryan doll, named Kurt. Richelle always wears shades of violet and purple. Pickings were pretty slim back in those day, 2013-4...so I sewed and scrounged purple/lavender clothing aside for Richelle. That's when I decided she needed her own closet instead of a go-fish situation in the enlarging piles of dollclothes.

She first lived in the HFIM house, then a basement apartment with Ryan, and now in the Grandgirl's house (we built and got back when she turned 12) which is in the doll room now. She married Ryan and they share the house with Midge(repro) and really cute Allan,(Ryan doll) who have an apartment in the lower level of the house.

Allan and Midge have only one room and a full bathroom and a dressing area, needed a separate closet, with use of the upstairs livingroom and kitchen. Most of my doll closets are cobbled redo's...or wooden/plastic silverware trays, or of course, cast off Mattel closets from thrift stores, which I have redone 

Ryan and Midge have this closet, which was one of those jewelry cases with a drawer and two spinning hooks. I removed the hooks and inserted a dowel rod for hanging clothes. This works perfect for a wardrobe. Painting it brown for the original 'mancave' when this was my Grand's dollhouse.

The house was built around the furniture i found, that's the window above that was designed for this particular piece of furniture. This dressing area holds the wardrobe with a drawer, a bench trunk, perfect for  putting on and storing shoes.  

Their bed's mounted on an altered jewelry box and has two drawers for clothes...perfect for a new couple.

 Hanging pieces and sports equipment can be stored under the stairs. (Behind the TV shelf below.)
