Part 5: Vickie's Vintage/Night at the Bijou

AD-FREE BLOG
In Vickie's Vintage...after nearly a month of strange happenings, (EL wouldn't even work in the 'Dungeon' alone anymore,) the costume shop has been dismantled.

It's after 6 pm downstairs in the 'dungeon', and the girls have finished packing up the left-over Halloween merchandise. But.....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara (left): I'm glad you called me, Carly. THAT is not an incidental crack.

Carly: Vickie hasn't seen it yet and Nope, it's not.

Lara: I'm texting Russell, now.
(PLEASE COME TO VICKIE'S, NOW---HUGE CRACKS IN LOWER LEVEL!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: Well, EL totally freaked. Then, she called Vickie...and frankly I have never seen anything like this.
And, I have four brothers...I know about cracks in walls.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara:  What happened?

Carly: We moved out the fixtures, and there it was!

(15 minutes Later, Russell Pittman, contractor,
 shows up)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Left....It was just, there...all crumbly and HUGE, hiding behind the Halloween Potions Cabinet.

Vickie: OMG...this IS awful.

Russell: Ahem..We have significant damage here...seems to go down to the footings. I'll need to get a crew here tonight to reinforce this wall! And we will have to have a City inspector here, soon.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: How long is that going to take? We have to open this part of the store before Thanksgiving!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I'm in touch with Ryan and he said we will have someone here from the Housing Department tomorrow morning.

EL: MORE pieces are falling!!! I have to take a shot of this!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: They look so worried...
Ami: Why are they so upset?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: (Mournfully playing the sax)
Ami: I don't remember our wall being that crumbly. Are the cracks growing?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: In my 20 years on the job, I've never seen this before.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: I can see you are worried, are we in danger?

Russell: Well...yes,Vickie. We have to get everyone out of here. And, you have to close down the upstairs. We have no way of knowing if there are structural issues in the whole wall or in the entire building.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ami: Structural issues sounds serious!

Sonnie: (Looking at the cracks) Could be for us, too.

Ami: Why?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Is this that serious?

Russell: Yes, we have to find the source of this issue, and why the wall is disintegrating. The cracks indicate an old doorway. If area was used during prohibition---there probably were tunnels. I will try and get the original plans to the building. And, we need to turn off all the electricity and gas---just in case anything else has been compromised.

Vickie: If you say so, I'll get the girls out of here.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Listen up Ladies. I'm going to bring in a crew tonight to reinforce this wall, I want you to remove any records or personal effects from the store and exit as quickly as possible.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I've contacted Mitch...and he's bringing over three guys, lumber, and plywood tonight. He wants to know if you want jacks, too.

Russell: No, that should be good. Let's go everyone, nothing more we can do here, now!

(All the lights are out!!!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: I think it's time for us to go...

Ami: Just another song, please...it's so quiet now.
(soft saxophone playing)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: It could be our fault the wall is cracked...maybe we should have stayed where we were?

Ami: (looks around) But, the lights were wonderful, the people, colors, music, and you playing your horn...I've missed that.

Sonnie: My horn was right where I left it, behind the furnace wall in the old coal room.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ami:We left so many things behind.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(whoo--oo-oo, whistling....air-sucking.....)

Ami: I'm frightened, what's that sound?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: Our world is crumbling......we have to go now!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ami: Hold me tighter.........

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(The humming turns to a growling sound)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ami: Why is it so loud?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: We're going through now.... (he pushes Ami forward)

Zinnnnngg-gg-gg-g, Grindd-dd-d......

CRunnnnnchchchchchchchch!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonnie: I will love you.....forever......

Ami: And, ever r r r rrrrrrrrrr!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

 Sizz-zzle....crack......crun-chh!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

HOLD ME!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'LL NEVER LET YOU GO!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I love you.....Amiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee

barbieoldnewgreenredo

CRACK! WHOO-OO-OOSH!

Ground shakes.........

BOOM!

Outside, TRISH JUMPS!

OMG, what was THAT?

Vickie's Vintage: Part 4 At the Bijou

October has been a busy month at the Haunted Dungeon shop in Vickie's Vintage basement. EL: has worked hard and with Carly and Zoe's help they have kept the shop crammed  full of stock.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Halloween Sales are always the biggest this coming weekend, but they still have had many strange happenings.

Night Paris JAZZ - Slow Sax Jazz Music - Relaxing Background Music

(For MORE  MOOD----please turn on this recording----very low)

A new sound system, security cameras and motion sensitive lighting have been installed in the 'Dungeon' shop. But, it is still a bit dark outside and very early in the morning.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Downstairs in the Dungeon....

(Ami was the most popular songstress in the near north side speakeasy, The Bijou,  and Sonny was the saxophonist. They are still together since 1928...slow dancing to their memories.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonny: Amen, woman you are so gorgeous in this light. I could, will hold you forever.

Ami: It's nice to have some room to dance...remember the ballroom down the street at the Grand....tea dances and private soirees.

Sonny: Hmmmm, yes, you sang like a songbird.

Ami:Your horn sang to me...

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sonny: And, I'm never tired of our private soirees.

Ami: (giggles) You say the sweetest things, always. But, I wish I could wear some of THESE interesting couture.  What's that? I hear someone on the stairs.

Sonny: What does it matter, no one seems to care..we'll just stand over here in the shadows and I'll kiss you.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ami: (Whispers) Whatever is she wearing?

EL: (I know I turned the lights off last night---there is that noise again...please no music in my head today.) Who's there? I have my camera---beware...girl with camera...big threat. (Crap, I'm talking to the air. I need to turn that crystal ball off, it's driving me nuts.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(The massive crystal globe throbs and strobes in time to the music in El's head. She takes a few photos before she shuts off the 'crystal ball'.) Accidentally she knocks one of the rubber rats on the floor.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL; Darn I knocked down that rubber rat....eek, they are multiplying.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Just get a shot of the two of them...ha, I'll use it for the last social media post for Halloween. Rats in the Belfry...or ??? I'm totally losing it!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Weird, did they just move, like one was kicked. Dang, there is that cold draft again. Let me get the lights on and check the thermostat.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

While EL makes her way to the switches, Sonny and Ami have one last long kiss for the night. They lean into the cabinet melting into the wood.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: The thermostat says it's 74 degrees in here...odd it was like ice across the room. Well, EL, hit those lights and let's get that new stock out!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The lights don't respond to the switch, but flicker-- finding our lovebirds snuggling still.

Sonny: I'll leave first, follow me before the lights go on...my angel.

Ami: Sure. (She casts a glance at the jewelry display. )Hmmm---look at these... I lost my favorite necklace long ago.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She reaches again and again, fingers missing the baubles and suddenly the entire display crashes to the floor. Ami disappears as the lights finally  go on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Now what....honestly---now there are lights, (flicker)--still pretty fudgy. (Sigh)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Goodness or Badness---that darn crystal ball turned itself on again????

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Great Gobs of Goblins....this is what crashed....it was glued to the counter.
This is impossible!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL pushes the intercom button....bzzzzt, crackle, ---hmmmmmmmm. She pushes it again.....

EL: Carly are you there....it's doing it down here, again...the whole place is going bonkers. I swear we are haunted. I'm coming upstairs, don't open the doors yet.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Upstairs...in Vickie's Vintage.

Carly: How about we review your photos---and look at what the camera sees. I'm sure it's just the season and all the creepy stuff down there, that has you on edge.

EL: I'm not imagining anything....(looking into the review screen) OMG....look at that!

Carly: What, I only see those icky rubber rats you are always playing with.

EL: I'll enhance it...look...(EL makes some light adjustments on the photo)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: Looks like a pair of shoes and some white fur. So what?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: We don't have any white fur downstairs, and all the mens' black shoes have been sold out for a week. The floor is empty, was empty---OMG, what is going on?

Do you hear that???

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The lights downstairs flicker and fade out, again....Sonny raises his saxophone to his lips and the music flows, mournful and slow.

(to be continued.........)
