BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO

1980's Fashion Show at Vickie's:Part One

Lara: Hi, Stephen. Thanks for taking this gig. Vickie's Vintage is a cornerstone of this area's development plan. And, this little fashion show will be a great promo for this neighborhood.

Stephen: And, it's January in Chicago---can only look at so much video on snow and cold.

Lara: (Laughs) Isn't that the truth. Well, I've a loose script I'm going to follow. If you can just roll with it, we can stop anytime. The audience here is all just friends, and well this little show is free.

Stephen: Sounds like it would be a perfect piece for Windy City Live. Never know if the local networks will pick this up. Kevin can help me with the edit, he's over at Channel 5.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Great, let's get started. (Lara moves to the center of the room.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Good evening ladies, on behalf of Vickie's Vintage and BMR Enterprises, I want to welcome you to our 1980's Vintage Fashions here at Vickie's Vintage. We hope to inform and entertain you, as most of you weren't even born in 1980. So let's begin.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I'm wearing a vintage dress, we aren't sure from when with some "Magic Barbie" #1466 poof add-ons and a matching hair tie. The 1980's were all about hair, hair accessories, bright color, shoulder pads, ruffles and fringe. I've matched the dress with some current shoes, from a new sample collection the store just received.

Next.....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Here is Monnie in what we believe to be a My First Barbie dress---in lovely tricot blue and hot pink. It features easy-slip-on-off styling. Monnie has paired it with matching hair accessories. If it really were the 1980's, Monnie's hair would be permed within an inch of its life.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Monnie has paired the dress with sparkle hose, matching hair accessories and hot pink shoes.
Really, this could be worn anywhere now and still be in style.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

If it really were the 1980's, Monnie's hair would be permed within an inch of its life. (Audience chuckles).

Next we have lovely Zoe in an unusual. In the mode of the Karate Kid, this coat and pants set is unusual for the time.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This fashion #2295 was a Twice as Nice MOC... the original pink sash was sheer, but Zoe has chosen a hot pink elastic sash and new sneakers.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Twice as nice referred to using items two ways. This coat is reversible to white with pink trim. A change of shoes and she is ready to step out in her winter white pantsuit.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Thanks Zoe and next we have Barbie Rowan in a great little morphed number.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Olivia New John, Jane Fonda and Jamie Lee Curtis encouraged the fitness craze, making exercise 'fashionable' for women in the 1980's. This teal exercise leotard (Great Shape Barbie) pairs nicely with a very popular Western themed jacket. Western styles have prevailed through the 1980's until now.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: It's not hard to imagine this jacket with the light blue skirt hanging in the closet in the background.  Western no longer meant leather, fringe and checks, and was paired with some wild prints as well as stone-washed denims.  Notice the metallic trim on the jacket.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The hat has the same trim and Barbie has chosen to show off this updated outfit with new hot pink boots.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

How about a hand for our first three models.

(Crowd goes wild....lol.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Expanding on the western theme, we have silver mesh leggings, glitter dusted stone-washed denim dress, paired with a Ziggy Stardust type jacket. Vickie has topped it with a jaunty Southwest inspired hat in teal. Vickie what sort of tags are on these pieces?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: These pieces came in separately and untagged, making it really hard to date them exactly. But, put together this way, I think it speaks to the spirit of the 80's where pretty much anything goes. But, I think this is an adorable outfit.

(Audience claps!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara:Next we have Elsa in metallic polkadot leggings paired with a very short 'country frock' with a Barbie's tag. The 1980's gave us "Happy Family" as well as Victorian doll houses and furniture. This cute little number has been updated with the leggings.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: A pink tee underneath, would help to keep you warm, too.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: The Victorian trend in the 1980's extended to traditional furnishings in the home, country fairs, and holiday dresses to the floor. Here, Belle models a very popular dress that debuted with "Angel Face Barbie in 1982. Vickie said, she has had no less than three of these since she opened. Clearly a lovely and popular dress.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: In real life, while permed long hair was popular among the younger set, their mother's were arriving at the office in high-necked blouses with lace or ties, and had tied back hair. Belle has the appropriate office look for adult hair in the 1980's. Large bows, collars and hair accessories were important.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: She looks lovely, can we have some applause for our 1980's trio: Sweet, Victorian and Western.

HFIM House:Back to Work in 2018

The party is over, and 2018 brings cold to Chicago and back to work for the Millennials.

Sigh!

Theres a new House Rules list up...meanwhile...

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Foofy and Rexie are cleaning up the last of the cookie crumbs in the Dining Room.

In the kitchen....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sindy: Oh my, it is so darn cold. I think I will need another sweater.

Patrick:Don't worry Kevin is warming up the van. You won't have to stand and wait for the bus today!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Aidan: Thanks Pat, for letting me use your Grandfather's overcoat here. I look like a dirty old man, but at least it's warm! California, never gets cold.

Patrick: No problem, Grampa's in Florida, he won't miss it!

The working herd file out of the kitchen, leaving Monnie, Tory, and Belle to have coffee in peace.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory: OMG, what are you doing, Nemo?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nemo: I'm going to make my own breakfast, in my new pajamas, and thanks for those.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory: What's wrong with your new pajamas?

Nemo: I can't get my hands through the cuffs. But, I'm wearing the bottoms, they fit fine.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nemo: House Rules on the fridge say, No Shoes, No Shirt, No Bottoms, NO service! I'll compromise I have all of that on--sorta, and I'll make my own breakfast!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory:Bottoms have never been your problem. You can't fry bacon bare-chested, Nemo. It's ----uncivilized.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nemo:Well, I can't eat bacon raw, though I have---in the past. Pass me the eggs, please.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Belle: OMG, I can't watch!

Tory: I give up!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Monnie: Breakfast and a floor show? What will we have next?

Barbie appears with a lacy apron and a grin.

Barbie: Here I have my new apron, you can use this!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nemo: You are too kind, Mistress of the house! But I don't think that will go around me?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Eric: Hey, man, why don't you just go put a shirt on, before you have lace patterned burns on your pecs. I don't have time to watch this, though I want to. I'm due in court in an hour.

Nemo: Okay, I'll go all the way upstairs and get a shirt, just for you, Tory.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory: That's a deal, and I will fix your sleeves this afternoon and make your breakfast now.

Nemo:(Blushing) Well, Miss Tory, I do thank you for the pajamas, and I will take you to dinner tonight, if pizza is okay? Oh, and I will wear a shirt.

Tory:(laughs) Sure, now how do you want your eggs?

(Life in the HFIM house to be continued...)
