Zoe: Maybe we should have left it empty! ERrrrgh!

Vickie: It's stuck, the casters are crooked...move it backwards a bit.

Lara: Hi, sorry the door was open, I knocked, ....

I just heard hollering, so I came in. Can I help?

Vickie: NOooooo, we got it...PUSH!

Collective PHEW!!! 

Vickie: (out of breath) Hi....Lara.....come on in.....we are just resetting the shop. 

EL: And our insides (gripping her stomach).

Lara: That's going to look great----say what happened upstairs?

Lara runs up the stairs....Oh, my...is this a new racey display?

Vickie: NO! Of course not,  Zoe just set them up this morning. We've been in the basement for the last couple of hours moving fixtures around.

Lara: Is this why you called me? 

Vickie: No, but some weird stuff has been happening, mostly electrical, lights, some noises--maybe there is a short somewhere. But this is really strange!

Lara: I can get someone here to check out everything. I'll help you get these two back up!

Vickie: There, no harm done.

Lara: Those two look like an Eternal Couple---they always look perfect together! Show me what else has been happening.

Vickie: Well, down here we hear like 'muzak' very faintly mostly like saxaphones--and that light up there has been blinking non-stop.

EL: Downstairs, I think I hear a scraping noise behind the old tunnel entrance. And the freight elevator has been cranky, stopping and starting at whim.

Lara: Well, this list is getting long....I'll get someone from BMR on it, right away.

Zoe: It's just all a bit Spooky. We never had any issues until a week ago.

Lara: I just called Russell, and he will be over here tomorrow to check everything out. Make a specific list, and we will try and figure out what's going on.

Vickie: Thanks, I'm going to call Joe and have him reset our security system before I go home and make sure the cameras are working correctly.

Lara: Good idea, I'll check with Trish and at the GrandView and see if anything unusual is going on there, too. Can't be too careful. We want to keep the neighborhood safe!

Vickie: We try---and Fall is always a bit of this and that! The girls are great at merchandising.

Lara: Love that jacket----I might have to have that.

Vickie: Turning the rack....I can put a hold on the jacket. Anything else?

Lara: Great and I'll be back tomorrow with Russell, okay. And then I can look around some more. Bye....

Vickie: Thanks for all your hard work, girls. Lara's going to get the contractor in here to check everything out tomorrow. So, see you then. 

Zoe, I'm not in until Wednesday afternoon. Carly is in tomorrow.

Vickie locks the door and picks up her phone: Joe, say can you come down here and check out the security system.  We've been having some electrical issues. I want to make sure it is working properly.

Joe: Sure, I can be there in a few.

Joe: Love ya, Doll.

Vickie: My hero, sorry to make you move on your day off!

Joe: Any spending time with you is my no.1 anyway. What's up here, the store looks great!

Vicki: Well, this camera wasn't working last night---I see the light is on now. Oooops, there goes the lights again, and we found the mannikins face down on the bench this afternoon. In the middle of the DAY?

Joe: The light is off again. (fiddles with the wiring)

Vickie: Lara is having the contractor come and check everything out tomorrow, there must be a short somewhere or something....?

Joe: These mannikins are heavy----I don't know how they could topple over on their own.

Vickie: A little closer. We had just moved the guys' cabinet and I didn't have much strength left to move them together.

Joe: I  think everything is working, now. I checked the breakers and reset all the cord breakers. Oh, I see what you mean about flickering. It's good you have a Pro check it out. 

Now, where am I taking you for dinner?

Lights out the store takes on a shady filtered look. And it's quiet, with and occasional crackle and hummmm.

Him: Haven't you caused enough trouble today.....?

Her: You know I'm your worst nightmare, Nathan. (chuckle).

Her: I wish they hadn't made this a store....I miss the candles on the tables, the stage.....sigh

Nathan: I miss the bar! 100 years is a long time to be without a drink...I miss your golden voice singing, DollFace.

Marietta: Aww....you haven't called me that fer....ever.

Nathan: And you haven't aged a bit in forever, Mari.....

Nathan: What was that? I could almost see the amber in your eyes.....

Mari: I remember outside the Bijou and having my photograph taken....I love photographs. I wonder if a camera caught my 'good' side?

A Little Fun with $$Store Doll Furniture

FUN in the SUN!

Well, this is a NEW, OLD and REDO post.

I was host for the June Meeting of WindyCity Barbie Doll Collectors Club last night, I think I have that correct. The night's theme was "Fun in the Sun and Beach Fun".

When I bought these $ Store Sets, it was because they looked so cute. I wasn't disappointed as they are very well made, easy to slip together and mostly white.

Wanting also to have a Beach diorama to share at our online meeting, I used an 18" doll backdrop (bought a few years back on clearance). I used muted gold glitter paper I had in my stash from clearance pads bought at Tuesday Morning. The Kids'Craft Foam Sheet in rainbow was bought at JoAnn's back in March ($1.99 for a large sheet). The red Umbrella and the pink table top really clashed, so a rainbow circle was cut to use as a topper and made the colors work.

The same craft foam was used on the lounger, the placemat was a Post-It note, the grill is a thrift store find (KidKraft-I think) I could have done a better job of taping the 'sand' together...lol, it sure photographs nice, though.

Add a potted plant, two dolls, a thrift store Tiki Bar and you have a PARTAY!

Total $14.22 + tax--NOT Bad...considering how expensive 'sets' are from Mattel.

Dolls and accessories aren't included, just to give you an idea of the diorama costs.

Not bad for something that can be taken down and set up easily for a season. Plus it's lots of fun for kids and a space saver, too.

Trish's New Shop Part 2: Doors, Touch Ups and Fixtures

I haven't had that much time with all the yard work. I finally decided on a lighter blue for the doors with exterior trim in a beige. The contrast with the old brick pattern was still too much, so I washed all the trim and doors with a combo of grey/sealer and water.

Here you can see the kink in the cardboard on the left side support, one reason not to use cardboard for 1/6 scale buildings.

Outside, I installed the doors with hinges from the 1.00 boxes from Michaels.  With a little bending they open fully and close flush. Here you can see where the overlap is on the front.

The white contact paper edge was going to show...so I chose Sharpies to color up the edge.

The red for the brick and then the silver and gold to antique the edges to blend with the bricks.

Here is the finished edge, ready to overlap to the door frame.

This is all the brick paper I have left after fronting the store.

On the top and bottom of the hole for the cooler, I installed a double width of tracking. (This is plastic channel originally designed for paneling. It comes in lots of styles and is cheap and saves lots of time for moldings, frames and now clear doors on the 

front of the cooler.

The pink box I'm using for the cooler is a bit slanted on the top/bottom ends. So I matched the angle, cut two $1 box lids to the angle, attached a top the right width

I glued the pieces together with E-6000, and weighted it down. This support won't show, so I didn't paint it, but will straighten up the angled ends of the organizing bin that will be the cooler. Hubby cut two pieces of acrylic photo 'glass' to slide into the track and that will be the doors for the cooler.

It's been four years since I made the garden center, so I used some random box pieces, two mini drawer and box sets, some small $1 box lids (will be shopping trays), the pyramid shelf from Target and some of  the older pieces a good wash of gray paint/sealer/and water. Not everything came out the same---but,

 are all in the same gray tones.

I even made a new heavier shelf for the greenhouse and painted the existing shelves  with the same gray sealer wash.

I really don't want to paint the whole greenhouse-now---maybe later.

Here is a painted white spice shelf, I picked up at a thrift store ages ago. Painted white, then gray washed. Perfect for this wall.

I found some mini lights on a greenery vine, and I have lots of the old pieces from the garden center.

I'm going for a more finished/refined look for the center and the floral shop now. Hubby cut me some 3", 2", 1" pieces of electrical plastic conduit  for flower containers and vases. Some I sprayed silver like these.

And a few white pieces to be used for floral containers.

I also painted two pink atrocities to maybe use---but honestly---it's really hard to cover the 'Barbie Pink'.

When everything was dry, I Tacky glued the cylinders to felt for bottoms. Now all I have to do is scissors cut them. 

That's it for now. Busy week ahead, still working on gardens and a friend's also. If it is too hot or raining, I will get the Floral Shop and Garden Center finally up and running.
