Vickie's Vintage: End of Summer Sale

Ad-Free Blog

(The following is an advertising photo event for fictitious 'Vickie's Vintage' here on the doll blog. Nothing is for sale, this is just for fun!)

Hi, customers and friends. This is Vickie from the front door of Vickie's Vintage here in Near North Chicagoland. We just got a late shipment of some fabulous swimwear.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: So, a few of my friends are here to show you some great new and retro styles.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Starting on the left is our Carly in a great two piece, Rory has more coverage with multi set, Nour wears a modified two piece, perfect for her slight figure, Teresa wears a hot patterned high cut leg suit, while our Zoe shows off a two-piece very high-cut leg floral number. All great suits.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Vickie's Vintage is open 5 days a week, Tuesday-Friday, 10-9 and Saturday 9-6. Please call and schedule private fittings for our formal department.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Our next group is in the ever popular boy leg suits, suitable for all figures. Our Babs on the left sports a 1962 Francie label suit, while Laurie is in a great nautical number. The horizontal stripes are great for her tall figure. Sandi, our 'Mom' model sports the ever popular 'bubble' two piece. Great coverage for those who want it, while Belle wears a one-piece with attached skirt over shorts.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Don't they look great. Come find a great selection of suits here, Chicago has at least one more month of hot weather.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Babs and Laurie look ready to tackle the waves!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Sindy wears the always practical tank for real swimming ---while Gilly is sports ready in a Speedo suit. Gilly, how is the fit on that suits.
Gilly: Well Vickie, it sure pulls everything in, but the stretch is total..so a real winner.

Vickie: Um, okay. Next, Faizah has a traditional black and white tank on with 'invisible' straps. She's new to Chicago and says this is the first swimming suit she has ever put on. Kennedy finishes up the tanks, with a multi-hued suit. Our next group brings out something a little different.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: If you are more for 'sports' on the beach or wading...here are some quick drying outfits for beach fun.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Barbie wears a lightweight 'scuba suit', perfect for volleyball or running on the beach. Linda wears a new activewear duo from a leading manufacturer, ready for anything you might want to do in our hot weather.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie:Trish sports some denim look leggings and a cool air/dry top, while Midge wears a halter and some quick dry sports capris.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Come join us for a Summer Blowout Sale, down here at Vickie's Vintage. We have so many hot weather clothes on clearance. Special thanks to all my friends for modeling. And, Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thank you for visiting, I will try and respond to every question and comment.

1980's Fashion Show at Vickie's: Part Two

Continued from: Fashion Show Part One...

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Here is an iconic number from the 1980's. After all the ruffles and glitz, we have high-style simplicity in this lovely dress worn by Richelle. What do you think of this Barbie Fun #7909, Richelle?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: Purple and lavenders are my favorite, so this dress is perfect for me! (Richelle turns and shows off her figure and the dress).

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: My notes here say you have a secret?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Richelle: Oh, no....does everyone know....??????

Lara: Well, it says here, that the purse and shoes are new and your own?...

(Lara is totally confused---but plugs on as Richelle regains her composure, to titters in the audience and walks off. )

Lara: WELL, next we have Sindy in a polkadot slouch dress in purple on yellow. The original was paired with a chiffon scarf, those simply do not make it for over 35 years. So, she has paired it with a hot pink elastic belt and hair bow, the original color. Updating this outfit, is the warm dark purple leggings and boots.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This design was originally included in a 20-Fashion Pack from the 1980s.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: It's still very cute and totally applicable in today's fashion world. Thank-you, Sindy.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Now, we will have a few minutes for the next set-up. Please remain in your seats as the lights will be turned off for our finale!

LIGHTS OUT!

(Distant thumping electronic beats come over the speaker system. Bump, crash, giggle....whisper ---we are ready!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Stephen: Okay, auxiliary lighting on. Sound check: (Loud guitar riffs.....dials adjusted).

Lara: NOW! LIGHTS! And what would be the 1980's without the ROCKER influences!
Left to right we have Vickie,  Mulan, and Tory ready to perform....!

(Twang, riff, Twang, rifff, YEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOooooowwwwwww!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: We have our trio of rockers and their vintage gear! Great sounds by the way!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory has the 80's hair, naturally, and she sports a borrowed jacket from Rocker Ken in the 1980's. We've paired it with a 1990's top for the same material and some vintage silver bell bottoms jeans complete the outfit. She could wear this today to any large social event!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(The girls Rockers play a quick song)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara:Our lead singer is Mulan, seems totally out of character for our art restoration expert.

(Mulan raises an eyebrow) Lara: I love to sing Karaoke, Sheena Easton and Pat Benatar, especially!

(Audience applauds)

Lara: Well, Mulan is wearing a vintage Mattel *ROCKERS* outfit, complete with wild and crazy hair, cinched up in a turquoise headband.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: Crazy hair? I think this is perfect for the office. (Audience laughs.)

This is an adaptation of the Onna-Bugeisha, female samurais from the noblest class of feudal Japan and who would fight alongside men during warfare. (Mulan bows to the audience.)

Lara: Well, we never know where our fashion trends are going to come from. Thank you, Mulan.

Last we have Vickie again, sans hat with her vintage earphones, 1980s tribal warfare headgear! Can you imagine they were once really that large? The glitzy denim and sparkles were also rocker choices in the 1980's.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm turning the microphone over to Vickie and thank everyone for being a great audience for our fashion show.

(Audience claps)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Thank you, Lara. Hi, everyone. I just want to thank, you all, for coming to our fashion show, and to our models who shared their fashions and modeled the shop's fashions. I hope we have given you some fab ideas on how to adapt vintage clothes and accessories into your wardrobes and have fun doing it!

Refreshments will be served after we take a group photo!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Stephen: Okay ladies of the 80's, everyone tilt your head and smile!

That's a wrap!

1980's Fashion Show at Vickie's:Part One

Lara: Hi, Stephen. Thanks for taking this gig. Vickie's Vintage is a cornerstone of this area's development plan. And, this little fashion show will be a great promo for this neighborhood.

Stephen: And, it's January in Chicago---can only look at so much video on snow and cold.

Lara: (Laughs) Isn't that the truth. Well, I've a loose script I'm going to follow. If you can just roll with it, we can stop anytime. The audience here is all just friends, and well this little show is free.

Stephen: Sounds like it would be a perfect piece for Windy City Live. Never know if the local networks will pick this up. Kevin can help me with the edit, he's over at Channel 5.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Great, let's get started. (Lara moves to the center of the room.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Good evening ladies, on behalf of Vickie's Vintage and BMR Enterprises, I want to welcome you to our 1980's Vintage Fashions here at Vickie's Vintage. We hope to inform and entertain you, as most of you weren't even born in 1980. So let's begin.

Barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I'm wearing a vintage dress, we aren't sure from when with some "Magic Barbie" #1466 poof add-ons and a matching hair tie. The 1980's were all about hair, hair accessories, bright color, shoulder pads, ruffles and fringe. I've matched the dress with some current shoes, from a new sample collection the store just received.

Next.....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Here is Monnie in what we believe to be a My First Barbie dress---in lovely tricot blue and hot pink. It features easy-slip-on-off styling. Monnie has paired it with matching hair accessories. If it really were the 1980's, Monnie's hair would be permed within an inch of its life.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Monnie has paired the dress with sparkle hose, matching hair accessories and hot pink shoes.
Really, this could be worn anywhere now and still be in style.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

If it really were the 1980's, Monnie's hair would be permed within an inch of its life. (Audience chuckles).

Next we have lovely Zoe in an unusual. In the mode of the Karate Kid, this coat and pants set is unusual for the time.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This fashion #2295 was a Twice as Nice MOC... the original pink sash was sheer, but Zoe has chosen a hot pink elastic sash and new sneakers.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Twice as nice referred to using items two ways. This coat is reversible to white with pink trim. A change of shoes and she is ready to step out in her winter white pantsuit.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Thanks Zoe and next we have Barbie Rowan in a great little morphed number.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Olivia New John, Jane Fonda and Jamie Lee Curtis encouraged the fitness craze, making exercise 'fashionable' for women in the 1980's. This teal exercise leotard (Great Shape Barbie) pairs nicely with a very popular Western themed jacket. Western styles have prevailed through the 1980's until now.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: It's not hard to imagine this jacket with the light blue skirt hanging in the closet in the background.  Western no longer meant leather, fringe and checks, and was paired with some wild prints as well as stone-washed denims.  Notice the metallic trim on the jacket.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The hat has the same trim and Barbie has chosen to show off this updated outfit with new hot pink boots.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

How about a hand for our first three models.

(Crowd goes wild....lol.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Expanding on the western theme, we have silver mesh leggings, glitter dusted stone-washed denim dress, paired with a Ziggy Stardust type jacket. Vickie has topped it with a jaunty Southwest inspired hat in teal. Vickie what sort of tags are on these pieces?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: These pieces came in separately and untagged, making it really hard to date them exactly. But, put together this way, I think it speaks to the spirit of the 80's where pretty much anything goes. But, I think this is an adorable outfit.

(Audience claps!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara:Next we have Elsa in metallic polkadot leggings paired with a very short 'country frock' with a Barbie's tag. The 1980's gave us "Happy Family" as well as Victorian doll houses and furniture. This cute little number has been updated with the leggings.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: A pink tee underneath, would help to keep you warm, too.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: The Victorian trend in the 1980's extended to traditional furnishings in the home, country fairs, and holiday dresses to the floor. Here, Belle models a very popular dress that debuted with "Angel Face Barbie in 1982. Vickie said, she has had no less than three of these since she opened. Clearly a lovely and popular dress.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: In real life, while permed long hair was popular among the younger set, their mother's were arriving at the office in high-necked blouses with lace or ties, and had tied back hair. Belle has the appropriate office look for adult hair in the 1980's. Large bows, collars and hair accessories were important.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: She looks lovely, can we have some applause for our 1980's trio: Sweet, Victorian and Western.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Lady like clapping and ....a few
Woot, Woot, Woots!)
