BARBIEOLDNEWGREENREDO

Fall and Halloween at Trish's Garden Center

AD-FREE BLOG

It's been a busy week at Trish's. Everything is disappearing, and even soon the farmstand will be empty.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Frost has kissed Chicagoland, but days have been beautiful. Dusk brings falling seasonal temps for October.

Late in the day Lara and Emilie are doing some last minute shopping!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Hi, Emilie...can you believe all the choices here?

Emilie: Very fine,  so much color and the courge and potiron, how you say?

Lara: Pumpkins and Squash...yes they are very colorful.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Emilie: Dees Squash with zee painted faces...so adorable.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

...and  ce chat noir, ees adorable. Henri, we must have this for the patio.

Henri: Yes, the squash cat is...very seasonal for Halloween. Did you see anything else you want?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Emilie: There is so much to see, let's look everywhere.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Everything looks so festive, and you must have been very busy over the weekend.

Trish: We were wiped, my brother and cousin were here this morning with a complete restock. I don't think we can last until Halloween. The farm was so busy this weekend to. I feel guilty staying in the city.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: The shop is fun too, can you make up two of those small pumpkin arrangements for me. I have two new sales, and I want them to feel welcome at the new project on Asher. We only have two units left.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: Flowers, or just produce and pods? I can have them boxed up and delivered tomorrow afternoon.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Your choice and tomorrow will be perfect. I love all your seasonal changes, I can't wait to have a real place of my own, soon. Living in whatever is left over on a project isn't really my choice.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I see no one is in at Vickie's. I know she had more electrical issues this weekend. Honestly I'm pretty dumbfounded...we can't figure it out what is going on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: That tree is spooky fun----love that moldy green stuff, y and it sorta glows in the dark.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: That tree was fun---say do you want to catch some supper, after I close up everything!

Lara: Sure...and it looks like they are ready to pay.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Henri: We never did Halloween in Montreal when I was young.

Emilie: Nor, I in Paris. You have so many scary things, I love the pumpkeens, and zis sweet chat.

Trish: That is almost our last painted gourd cat. We have an artist that does those for us, and they have sold very well.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: We try to have fun things each year. Do you want these wrapped or just take them as is?

Henri: This is fine, we only have a short walk.

Trish: Good night and thank-you for shopping here.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: Now to remember all the lights!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

...I hope we will have enough stock, it's still three weeks until Halloween.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I think that's it for this side.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Fence is closed. Now to turn off the shop and the last of the lights.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Well, what are you hungry for?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: Anything but pumpkin, squash or apples....LOL.

Vickie's Vintage: Part 3 at the Bijou

Ad-Free Blog

Part 3
Vickie's Vintage has suffered a slew of strange happenings, peculiar sounds, power and electrical issues. Russel Pittman, the BMR Ltd. contractor, inspects the building to address all the complaints.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Vickie said the power was out for almost 2 days? Well Russ, what do you see?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Well, this wiring seems secure and checks out. Did they find anything on the security tapes that showed what the problem might be?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Just some hazy interference of some sort late at night. Nothing clear or concrete, then black when the power was out.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Well, the security system is motion and sound sensitive, so something should have shown if it was a night critter.

Lara: Night critter? Can you be specific?

Russell: Well, raccoons, squirrels, mice, rats...even bats will set off a sensor and not really show up on tape.

Lara: Yech, bats....ugh!

Russ: (laughing) Let's check downstairs.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: The Wifi system -checks out-so do the register connections. No humming here?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: There's another camera over there, hidden in the ceiling molding.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: I don't see or hear anything unusual. This wall backs up to a storage room, right?

Lara: Yes, and the loading dock. You can check there before going downstairs.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: I didn't know Vickie's had guys' stuff...I like those bowling shoes! Do you bowl?

Lara: Not in a long time...

barbieoldnewgreenredo

...the downstairs was over half guys' stuff this summer, now it's going to be just for Halloween.

Russell: Okay on to the backroom.

Later....

Lara: Carly said there was noises coming from this wall? Which I don't understand, because it's just the wall to the downstairs stairwell.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Russel turns quickly and knocks Lara off her feet, .....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

...And catches her!)

Lara: Ooohh! Thanks for catching me, Russ. I wouldn't want to crash into all the boxes behind me.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: (straightening her skirt) Thanks, uh, Russ...um...I have another appointment now. Vickie said El is downstairs and can fill you in on the strange stuff that has been happening down there. I left Vanny to help if necessary. See you, hum, er...soon.

Russ: No problem, I'll call or text  you with a list if I can figure out what's wrong.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Downstairs---the Halloween Shop is several days behind).

EL: Oh, it's you, the fixit guy. Hi,---I'm EL.  Do I have a list for you. And, we lost complete power down here for two days, for NO reason.

Russell: Well, shoot that is what I'm here for, EL.  So what else is up? (Looking around at the almost bare room).

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: The worst is I swear I hear saxophone music when the sound system is off. Kinda a low wailing type and sometimes really fast it sounds like bugs on a screen,  but so soft you can hardly hear it.

Russell: Jazz or Blues bugs? (chuckle) My Grandpa said this building use to be a Speakeasy called the Bijou in the 20's.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: I'm not kidding, really, mostly at the register area over there. The sounds system buzzes sometimes and some sort of musical humming, too when it's off. I then  turn it on and up the sound system to drown it out.

Russ: Okay, let me check everything out.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vanessa: Lara said to take notes...do you really want me to write down saxophone music?

EL: Yes...it's unnerving. I'm down here a lot on my own and it's been getting really WEIRDER every day.!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Please help me get this Mermaid up here...you know it's spooky enough down here getting ready for Halloween without having strange noises 24/7.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vanny (A mermaid, is that what this is? What I do for my job...yikes!) Is this high enough?

EL: Just a little higher!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Meanwhile...(Russell checks out all the electrical connections at the service desk.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Maybe this is a culprit, a loose metal panel that hums from the computer fan? I'll just fix this and see if it helps. (shaking his head)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: I can't find anything else here, I'm going to check the freight elevator and the furnace room. These old buildings have lots of sounds to them. Pipes, heat runs, air vents...I'll be back.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Later----

Russell: Well, ladies, I bled the water system, cleaned the filters on the furnace, adjusted the fan settings and fixed a loose wire on the elevator. Really nothing that you could be responsible for your 'symptoms of saxophone sounds', but let me know if any weird stuff continues. I left my card on the desk.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vanessa: Thanks, Mr. Pittman, I will let Lara know what you did. Bye now and thanks.

EL: Vanny, thanks for your help---can you wait a minute while I turn the lights off. I'm not staying down here alone? It's too creepy.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Outside in a few minutes---Lara: Ah...errr, Mr. Pittman?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Mr. Pittman...(louder) Russ...?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russ: Miss Roberts...sorry, I thought we were on a first name basis by now, Lara.

Lara: (Blushing) Yes, we are, well sometimes we are. (whispering) I'm trying to keep it totally professional with my intern, right here.

Russ: Sure, anything you say Miss Roberts. I'll have my report ready for you in say two hours. (whispering) Maybe we could meet for dinner.

Lara: Shhhh....just text me. (She turns and dashes off.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: (Darn him....he's watching me walk away....I can feel it--blushing...)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: Well, did you see what I just saw?

Vanessa: She's my boss, I can't talk about...ahhh-hmmm....(giggle)....seeing that!
