What's on my Desk February 1, 2024

First I have to explain, I have a desk and two work tables. Today I'm showing just the one desk and the main table.

I've been sorting, cleaning, organizing---and just pulled out three picnic baskets and one tote labeled dolls to sell. Granted these are not all going to get sold. I think I may/will redo some.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I am planning to re-body some. Problem is the skin tones. UGH! And look at those FLAT FEET....LOL.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I have to check and see if I have this dude in the dark hair...I know I have Rob..blond who lives in the refurbished Victorian with wife/Chris and the two kids.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The gal in the red dress is an off-brand doll, but the dress is cool, and she's kinda cute.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I think I was saving this gal for a rebody if I already have her.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This colorful parachute skirt, opens whether you want it to or not? It has a spring mechanism, but her top is painted on---so she will be gone.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Some TNT's  and a few rubber legs---not my favorite. I like the gal in the middle, but I may have another one, will double check tomorrow.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Hmmm, part of the head brigade. Will assess whether to hang on to them or use them for craft projects.
The Nikki Rockersz(see farther on) had a cracked neck on her body---I will be in search of the correct one at thrift stores.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Non-Mattel, or Princess dolls. Definitely will find these a new home, very good condition though. No one is dirty, they were probably displayed in a case.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Did a photo shoot with Rehyna in blue, with a bit of new makeup. She's named after my d-in-laws sister, dead ringer. The blonde is the story below.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
I also worked on a couple of dolls. This gal is a 1991 Birthday Surprise Super Star  had been tossed on a shelf---gorgeous and pristine, except the scrambled and totally matted back of her hair.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I combed it out and it was so fine and lost the curl, so I put her in curlers and photo'd her before the hot water.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I undressed her...and gave her a very hot water soak--for under a minute, not boiling..her hair was too fine for that treatment. I also did a Marilyn doll who was dirty who I actually had to rebody, because the dirt wouldn't come off. I'm counting on her dress shrinking, so she should look fine in the dress.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Here they are gossiping the next day with their curls still drying out.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Marilyn in her new body and clean hair.  Her dress will be another post, if it works.\
This is what she and the dress are supposed to look like:

item sold online no source

from a sold post online. I should be able to replace any stones missing. I have everything else including shoes.

Back to Barbie.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Barbie with her new hairdo...rollers and 40 seconds in hot tap water, not boiling.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She has that super fine hair, so I'm just going to comb the roots and twist the curls.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I had kept the twisted braid on the top the way it was. Very pretty doll for that HAIRY time period and pristine. I think there were a gazillion made, but maybe someone will want her.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I think this one was removed from her box before tossing on the thrift store shelf...reason her hair was so tangled.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Marilyn gets another redo---and more hot water. I'm trying some hairpins to control her curls. Her hair is very strong saran and really took the curl. I actually re-bodied her with a playline recent body that was a good skin match.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Some other purchases from the thrift store. Chelsea is here for reference. Neither one of these guys is full-size. I had to research the guy on the left, he's a Zac Efron doll from HS Musical 2008, also saw him referred to as Troy.
The guy on the right is Ben from Descendants Royal Wedding by Disney..but so cute. He has a dopey uniform type outfit. They are both about the size of BTS dolls.
I'll be keeping both of these guys.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

I think he is really cute, excellent condition and fully articulated, hard to find young boys...that are different. I think they will be perfect size for the Olsen twins who are larger than the Stacey series of B dolls.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

On my little work desk, is my Christmas card from Angela in my doll online group---We got materials to make these three little projects...such a good idea to send bits and pieces. I added my own touch with some lace, rhinestones and ribbon.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Angela sent lots of bits and pieces the cookies and candy were detailed and adorable. The little elf face was so cute! I'm sorry I didn't get at them before Christmas.

Also recently I found and I was really excited for Nikki from the Rockers,
1979-82 ish.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I looked at some photos, and thought I would try and see if her hair was okay to remove from the braid. I gently unwound the hair, and the neck cracked.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

On closer inspection, the neck had been cracked and repaired on the inside. Her head wasn't even really on the way it should be. Now the repair had failed, and her head would have to be immobile on her body and sunk down, so she would have this squatty look.  I will search for a different matching body. Downside is she is very pale, and I'm sure it will take awhile. I waited three years to find a matching body for my 50's Barbie, who had melting legs inside her box...another pale girl.
But now I know what I'm going to be looking for.

So that's quite a bit, for the last two days or so....I've been keeping busy!

My Girls with Short Hairdos and Hair Cuts.

 Ad-Free Blog

Ever stare at a bin of discarded Barbies in a thrift store and cringe at all THAT mangled LONG HAIR?

It's no wonder there are BILLIONS of Mattel
Doll combs existing to bury the planet ten times over.

So I dug in my photos to share my dolls with short hair. There are more now on the market than the 80-90's when Every Doll had butt length hair and sometimes-almost always too much hair.
barbieoldnewgreenredo
When Eleanor was combed out it was quite long, but she qualifies in this photo.

The photos below are Colette/Callie who started as a Jazz Baby with 3 additional wigs. I seldom use the wigs, as she has this strong personality without them. You judge...Colette in some of her views.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
barbieoldnewgreenredo

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She has a red bob and a sultry long black wig also, all very 1920's. I sort of like the red bob, can't find it right now, though.

barbieoldnewgreenredoi

Her friend and co-hort is Emilie, also styled for the 1920's and is gorgeous. Emilie's hair is thick and bobbed, all I did was give it a vigorous brushing!

barbieoldnewredo

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Too cute in just about everything I put on her.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sandi or (the Grandmother doll) is supposed to be a mini-me...but she is a bit too serene and put together to be me. LOL I did trim her hair and gave her gray some blonde streaks with a permanent marker. This really brightened up her look.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
Even in a background photos she steals the scene.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Monnie is named after an old friend from college, and I gave her a haircut to indicate her as an older doll, she has gray chalk streaks in her hair...which just adds to her character.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Pinky is one of those dolls whose hair Long-frizzed and was just everywhere...a chin length bob, helps. Someone had texturized her hair in frizzles.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I re-bodied this girl later than this photo, she's adorable and was found by my son in a batch of dolls for $1.00 each. I only trimmed strays from her.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Yara is borderline short hair however because of the volume of it...she needs lots of room to walk around in my dioramas.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This girl was a thrift store find...and needs to be re-bodied, she is so pale though, I will have to wait to find a match. I'm afraid to comb her hair and find what's hidden in that top curl...lol.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL(left) is adorable anywhere, and Lanise got a heavy trim into layers,  her long thick hair had been trashed. She has a unique face.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vanessa or Vanny came like this...she's so cute as a student, when she advanced to a graduation and a job, she got a topknot...I will try some other styles with her
THICK natural hair.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Casey is a nurse so her layered bob which works better than her mass of curly long 90's hair to her waist.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Camille is cute with a angled bob instead of the long thick black straight hair that overwhelmed her smaller body.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Linda had a short storyline...her hair had been altered by a three year-old with sparkle paint and a scissors. I picked her up for her body and cut all the hair off wondering if I could save that pretty face.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She's named for a family member with cancer and I did a post on her having her hair cut off. She tried the wig and it really wasn't her. She decided to embrace her hair and added some bright lips to finish it off.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Now, Linda keeps her hair this short and teaches wellness classes for survivors...I really love her spirit her look and her hair.

Looking at these girls makes me want to take a scissors to a few more!

What do you Think
about cutting doll hair?

Russell views progress in the Victorian Mansion

 AD-Free Blog

In the shop, the custom door for the Victorian Mansion is in the works. Since spray painting isn't being done because of cold temps, Russell had the door clad with vinyl, and a stained glass window installed for privacy.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Stained Glass Pink door window directions here:

Materials and Tools:
Plastic door from a Barbie/Doll closet
(this was hacksawed off leaving the rods and 'hinge'         plastic in place---sanding  the edges smooth.
Sandpaper
Alcohol
Cue-tips
Scissors
Cutting tool
Vinyl self-stick paper (non-permanent) (Contact paper)      as I'm planning on spray painting this piece in                 warmer temps.
Paint marker pens-I used white and Black
Printed photo of stained glass on paper or vellum
Modge-podge or Liquitex Satin Varnish(I used this)
Smooth nylon/synthetic flat brush at least 5/8" wide
white duct(k) tape

Clean the entire door/window frame with alcohol using cue tips to get into crevices and corners.

Place larger print of stained glass on the backside it will be attached to, tape in place-score with your fingernail along the edge of glass frame to get a pattern. Cut the shape out with scissors just a tiny bit outside your scoring.(This gives you some wiggle room)

Stick on the vinyl-- cutting and fitting as you go, slowly. Trim center out around the glass area.
Use painting pens to touch up along hinges, and door knobs. Also paint on the back glass side the 'plastic' color showing through (PINK)of the frame in front. Also paint any areas showing pink around your cuts. Touch up any areas with paint now. Let completely dry.

Paint backside of glass with a quick coat of varnish  or modge-podge. I used the varnish on this project. Place the 'stained' glass carefully on the varnish and brush from the center out with dry brush. When smooth---apply two coats of varnish. The paper may bubble and stretch---smooth these out with gentle wet brushing. This small piece wasn't too bad to do...and it will dry completely clear!

I inserted bottom rod in original 'door' hole, and then the piece of white duct taped slipped between the door and the moveable middle spindles. Attach sticky side to spindles then to the right on the wall, and on the back piece to the other side outside. (No one ever sees the  outside of this house.) The white duck(t) tape blends into the white walls.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Well, Ladies, what do you think? (Still pale pink from the magenta showing through the white vinyl on this door.

(Again, I will remove paper and spray paint this in Spring, meanwhile, for now the PINK is gone!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sindy: The door is beautiful and no longer pink...YAY!  Say we have pizza on order, you want to join us, Mr. Pittman?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Belle: We ordered extra, since we still aren't cooking. We are waiting on how Richelle decides to do the kitchen for the showing. So Take-Out and delivery is our only food?

Russell: Sure thanks! You have all been super during this construction. We are definitely close to the finish. Tomorrow the plumber is coming to install the shower, the parts finally came.  I think Richelle said she is staging here on Thursday. Is there anything else that you can think of that needs to be done?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: Well the closet still isn't done in the second bedroom, and the closet door here?

Russell: Thanks, already noted, the closet upstairs should go in tomorrow, and the door too! Thanks for inviting me for dinner---I'm running between three projects right now--and sitting down to dinner is a real novelty.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Foofie:(I'm so confused---where is my small human-Chelsea?)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sindy: I'll be moving to the Grand View as soon as Lara moves to the penthouse with her Aunt. I'm taking her condo. It will be convenient to be right above the bakery, I'll be able to check on the baking in the evenings, since Jamie is finishing his degree with evening classes now.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Well, with all these changes I'm sure, you all will find great places to live when the mansion is sold. Richelle said she has ten showings lined up for next weekend, if we get this all ready to go. And the photos aren't even up on the site, yet.

Belle: Wow, well we have to get situated soon then since everything moves so fast now.  I put my stuff in storage as I'm starting a tour in March with Disney's Frozen stage production. I'm kinda excited! We are starting rehearsals this week.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Belle: I'll miss this house, we've all had lots of good times, here. And I'll miss the friends I've made.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Foofie: (My humans are leaving? I don't like all this change?)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sindy: Belle, you can crash with me when you are in town, I'm putting in a double bed, just in case!

Belle: That would be great!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Russell: Well, thanks, ladies have a good night, and see you tomorrow, sometime!

Next: Back to the Townhouse
