Vickie's Haunted Vintage Part 5

Part 5

Later that evening,
Mulan, Barbie and Lara are having a discussion in the backyard of the HFIM house.

Barbie: Mulan, do you really think something is going on at Vickie's? She has been doing such a great business.

Mulan: The 'unknown' can disconcert one. Zoe seemed particularly upset.

Lara: I'm sorry I don't really know your friends well, but the shop is amazing and Vickie's help seemed to know exactly how to treat customers. Such an asset to your community. Just, because it's the Halloween season doesn't mean the supernatural is working against her.

Mulan: I didn't say unnatural forces, I said negative forces.

Barbie: We have more than the supernatural to worry about, tomorrow night Mulan, we have a meeting at the venue for the benefit. Can you be there by 8pm?

Mulan: Certainly, I have found some interesting backdrops we might be able to use for decor. You said the room was big and empty...which we will need. I have sold over thirty tickets myself.

Lara: How many tickets have been sold?

Barbie: Oh, we just don't know, yet. Everyone who is selling is supposed to contact me by tomorrow night. I can't believe the benefit is only four days away!

Meanwhile,
Detective Joe and Vickie walk down to Sal's Seafood just around the block
from the vintage shop for a late dinner.

Gino: I'm your server tonight. Nice to see you again Joe, and you're Miss Vickie from the shop around the corner.

Detective Joe: Please Gino the table back in the corner. That's a nasty bruise on your face Gino, what happened?.

Gino: I got jumped walking out to the alley from the back door. Alley dirt is stuck in my face, and I twisted my ankle bad. I couldn't tell who it was, they pushed me from the rear and stole all my tip money. This neighborhood's going to the dogs.

Vickie: I hope not, did you report it to the police?

Gino: Sal didn't want me too, the publicity would be bad for the restaurant. You be careful Miss Vickie when you close up late.

Vickie: I will, thank-you.  Joe, I love this corner, it's so vintage back here with the old prints and paintings.

Joe: I've been wanting to order the Fish Boil, but it's too much for one person.

Vickie: It's too much for two. Love the coleslaw and the corn. Reminds me of my grandparents having fish boils in northern Wisconsin. What did you want to talk about, Joe, I mean Detective.

Joe: Well, there have been nine incidents in the last week in this block. Petty theft, Gino, your shop, an eighty year-old man who owns the building next to yours, pushed down some stairs. He is still in the hospital. Broken windows, street signs, electricity out, cables cut, just about everything you could imagine.

Vickie: I had no idea all this was going on. What's happening to our neighborhood? I just got a notice that the building has violations and the owner is no where to be found. And, business has been so good. I don't know what I'm going to do?

Joe: Please be extra careful Vickie. I know you have the apartment, upstairs of the shop, and roommates.

Vickie: Yes, Zoe and Nikki are both staying with me. So, I'm not alone, ever. It's not the best apartment, but it's convenient and I thought safe?

Joe:There is more here than just isolated incidents. We are looking at a bigger picture, I can't say anything more. Would you like some more wine?

Vickie: No thanks, two glasses is my limit.

Gino: Would you like coffee or dessert, and I bagged up your leftovers. Sal wanted me to tell you Joe, someone slashed tires in the employee lot this afternoon. He wants you to stop by tomorrow and talk with the day crew.

Joe: I'll be by first thing tomorrow. Gino, thank you and please take care of yourself. Thanks to the chef, the meal was delicious.

Vickie and Joe took the long way around the block, so he could casually check out the neighborhood and they had a nice long talk. They passed the van.

Vickie: Well, Detective who are the roommates in your van and where do you live when you aren't 'undercover'?

Joe: Hm, well it wouldn't be much of an undercover operation, if I revealed everything. I have an apartment up on Irving Park, and my roommate is Jeanette. She's a cat.

Vickie: Really? I never would have thought of you as having a pet cat.

Joe: She was a stray and kept bellowing at my back door when I first moved in. I think whoever had the apartment before, just left her. She's a very nice cat, her coat is the color of your hair. You sure smell good, Miss Vickie. (He grins.)

Vickie: Officer, I do believe you are frisking me...? The lights aren't on, now what's wrong?

Vickie opens the door to find her roomies, huddled on the couch, no electricity and no heat.

Joe: One more thing to add to our list. This perpetrator counts on people not sharing their information. All these random incidences have a reason. And we will get to the bottom of this very soon. Lock up, tight Vickie. You have my number.

Vickie:Yes, sir. And thanks for a lovely meal. I really enjoyed myself, I haven' been out for a long time. Night.

Vickie closes the door, and flops down on top of the girls huddling in the cold dark.
The only light in room emanates from their cell phones and laptop.

Zoe: So how was tattoo man? And what is he doing that we don't know about?

Vickie: He's very nice, and he's just being, um, protective.

Nikki: I only got the answering machine when I called the landlord. I reported the heat out to the hotline, and Com Ed too.

Vickie: Yes, it is  a little cold in here, I'm going upstairs and grab some sleep. See you in the morning.
We may have to chisel ice down in the shop...or thaw out bones or something? Goodnight.

Wednesday Night at the venue for the Skeleton Bash.

Ryan: This is a huge black cave, perfect for a haunted night of revelry and debauchery.

Richelle: Oh, no....here we go.

Ryan: Nope, first on the list, I'm taking care of lighting, furniture, the stage and the bar...anything else Madame Chairman-er-woman Chairperson?

Barbie: No, that's great. Thanks to Mulan for the great backdrops, I hope we can use them all.

Vickie:Those photos, really pop against the black walls. This room is really perfect for the benefit. I hope it is enough room.

Richelle: The stage over in the corner will be a great place for taking photos. At $20.00 a shot and the photographer is donating 100% of the profits for the relief fund.

Barbie: It sure will, so what's the decision on the tables, black or purple?

Mulan: Maybe we should use green, I vote for purple?  This room is a void, otherwise.

Richelle: We could use a carpet down the middle here to cover the seam in the concrete.

Barbie: Everyone check your lists...and let's nail this down by Saturday, when everyone comes to make this room into MAGIC....for the Skeleton Bash.

Vickie's HAUNTED Vintage Part 2

NOTE: THIS IS PART 2

Tuesday MORNING---opening of Vickie's Haunted Vintage

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Phone: Briiinggg, Brinnnnng!

Vickie: Thanks Zoe for coming in, Nikki had to work her other job today, and I really need the help.
If you can finish straightening the jewelry, that would be great.

Vickie's Haunted Vintage......

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: (Wow, this is an awesome collection of items for Halloween. I'm lucky I found some work, my other job just isn't paying enough.) Vickie these spider orbs are so cool. Do you want this table neat-neat, or casually draped.

Vickie: Just straight enough you can see everything and not a tangled mess.

Zoe: Okay, done, I'll do the shoe rack next.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe:(hmmm, treat bags are low, I will have to see if there any in the back. Love the Poison Apples, )

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Hmmm---such great vintage decor? )

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Orange black in this cabinet---love the Mummy. )

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Darn the lights are out again. I guess it just adds to the ambiance.

Zoe: You have plenty of light from the street and the string lights are still on

Vickie: I'll go downstairs and flip the breakers. I don't understand why one string of lights is screwing us up? They are hooked on the emergency circuit for the security cameras, so they have power all the time.

I see customers outside, Zoe. Can you please unlock the door and greet them.

Zoe: Okay, Welcome to Vickie's Haunted Vintage. If you need anything special, I'm here to help you.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Belle: I saw this the other day when Vickie was unpacking boxes, I have to have it for the Skeleton Bash.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Can I interest you in the tail that goes with that fabulous dress?

Tory: Really, I didn't know it's a Mermaid outfit, The Little Mermaid is my favorite fairytale. Really how do you wear it?

Zoe: Your feet stick out the bottom and you just hobble around?  Need some sandals?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

An hour later the line is long.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Tory: Vickie, your selection is awesome. And I will take a ticket for the Bash, too.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Belle: I'll comeback and pick up my accessories when I get paid on Friday. Wow, there have been a lot of customers shopping while we were here.

 (Two hours later)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Barbie: I always wanted to be a Glam Rocker, now I can at least pretend---that jacket is adorable, but I may use my own silver pants.

Vickie: Well, we made up costumes from some of the vintage pieces that came in. Your imagination will just make it yours, I'm sure. Thanks again.

Phone: Briiiinnnng!

Vickie: Vickie's Haunted Vintage, how can I help you. (My goodness and it's only 1:00).

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Six hours later the phone is still ringing.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Nikki: Sorry I had to bail on you today---the boss was sick and one teacher for 48 kiddies, which is Hell, not to mention illegal.

Vickie: No problem, Zoe's been great and she's a natural with the customers. Hope you fit the Gypsy costume, I thought of you when you said you were going to read Tarot cards at the benefit.

Nikki: My grandma had the gift, though it has passed me by, but I can still read cards, or fake reading cards for donations. The benefit is going to be a great boost for all the hurricane victims.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(6pm, Monnie walks in)

Monnie: Here's the extra poster and more tickets for you to sell. Wow, this looks fabulous.

Phone: Briiinnnnng, Brinnnnngggg!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Thanks, been busy, how many more tickets?

Monnie: Here's 50 more, will that do it?

Vickie: (nods her head, yes) Vickie's Haunted Vintage, how can I help you?

Vickie's HAUNTED Vintage Part 3

PART 3 Vickie's Haunted Vintage Tuesday night.
(Almost closing time)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: Your decor is amazing, where did Vickie get all these wonderful artifacts?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

This is a particularly strong dragon, for protection and auspicious good fortune.

Zoe: That's what Vickie said. I'm Zoe and you are....?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: I'm Mulan, nice to meet you. I see you are from Canada. I did some graduate work in Vancouver.

Zoe: Oh, I'm just from Toronto, barely Canada. You know about Chinese history, then?

Mulan: Yes, I'm working at the Art Institute in the Eastern collections.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Stephen: So how ridiculous am I going to look in tights?

Doctor Ken: Ha, men in tights. Man, this has to be for a woman?

Stephen: (blushes) Yea, she's a knockout and I have it on good authority, she bought a Princess dress this morning---so I have to give this outfit a shot?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: How can I help you?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Joe: I'm looking for  a leather vest with fringe and a helmet, do you have anything like that here?
Wow, this dude back here is one scary---MMM_um....guy!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Joe: Thats a really  cool animatronic you got back there?

Zoe:animatronic? Oh, thanks, I can put your name on the wish list, and if something you asked for comes in, we can give you a call.

Joe: Great, thanks!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: This is a great choice for you---these pants will look great with this jacket. Very Country singer from the 80's look.

Lara: Hmmm, not really my style, but then---a little glitter and some curls, and I should be able to be completely unrecognizable. (chuckling)

Zoe: Well let me wrap this up---and you can check out.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: I'll need 4 couple tickets also, and can you call me if any silver boots, size 8 come in? You're Vickie, I saw the benefit promo on ABC on Windy City Live. Great idea with all the money people spend on Halloween to steer some of it for a good cause.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Thanks we are glad to help and thank-you for shopping here, and I will be sure to watch for silver boots. Lara, thanks for buying the extra tickets.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Oh, darn. The lights again?  (Bang-crash) Oh, what was that? Sounds like it came from the back of the store.

Vickie: I'll get the breaker, excuse me, and don't walk around until we get the lights back on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Vickie's going downstairs to fix the breaker, I know it's dark in here---don't worry any customers back in here?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Zoe looks up)

Zoe: EEEEEEKKKKKK! HELP__No! (Zoe turns and runs, tangles in the carpet and falls face first in the dark)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Ow---help---IT MOVED and something pushed me back there!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Lara peeks around the corner)

Lara: I don't see anything strange.

There the lights are back on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: See, nothing to be worried about. You just stumbled and fell. (Lara pokes the mannequin) See, it's not alive or dead, it's just a nasty mannequin.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lara: Granted not date material...(she chuckles).

Zoe: I suppose so. (She shoves the mannequin and it wobbles, menacingly) It still creeps me out, but thanks, Lara. And, have a great nite and I will be sure and call you about the boots.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan: Just as dragons are powerful positive forces, negative entities do exist.

Zoe: (whispers to Vickie) I saw that ghoul THING raise its arm and move its head. That customer Joe asked something about animatronics. Is that THING powered by anything?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Mulan:The power of the dragon will overcome any negative forces working in this building.

Vickie: I'm sure we have just been too busy to watch what every customer does. I know you had a scare, Zoe. But everything is fine now and I'll make sure the security cameras are on from now on.

Thanks for coming Mulan, and I will have your order ready next week, the seamstress is altering your costume for you.

Mulan: Please take care, Vickie and Zoe. Negative entities feed on fear and weakness, Be strong! Good night.

Zoe: Thank you, Mulan, it's just been a long day, and we didn't even have time to eat. My mind was playing tricks on me.

Phone: Briiiiinnnng!  Brinnnnnng!

Vickie: It's 8:15, Vickie's Vintage---no Haunted Vintage is now closed. Zoe it's time for some food and let's take it home, my treat.

Phone: Briiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnng!

(Door slams, motion sensitive emergency lights and security cameras are running!)
