Resort Shop: It's barely Spring in Chicagoland

Ad-Free Blog
My doll stories are fictitious and in Chicagoland in real time, weather, season, society and social events are current to the posting date.

EL finally has the resort shop ready for our Chicagoland elusive Spring!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Now if the weather would cooperate)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Welcome to the resort shop...oh, that's you, Ian. Sorry, I'm just on automatic, welcome anyway. What can I help you with?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Everything looks great. Are you going to want me to take photos now or tomorrow.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: I really need another pair of jeans.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: I thought about you with that white tee with the graphic. Maybe tomorrow night, I still have the gals rack to fill...it's only half done.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Yea, that would be okay, but this awesome Disney Tee---I had one like that when I was 10.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: How about those weird sneakers or are they climbing shoes?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Honestly, they are kinda cool, you have everything this year.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: I think we will have a good season despite no one traveling right now. Besides it's snowing again, so we aren't putting out the swim suits until June, since travel for Spring Break was so down,.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Anything special you want photos of this week? You know I think you need a bigger focal point on the clothes rack...what about a scooter, bicycle or something like that?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Great idea! We just need some bright colors and happiness...everyone is so down with the weather...and the economic forecasts.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Well, I'm here to give you a lift up, (Gives her a little nudge).

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: I'm just tired, how about we go down the street for dinner?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: Hmmmm, I'd love to give you a little bite...but, dinner sounds great.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: How can a girl refuse an invitation like that! (Long smooooch!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

LIGHTS OUT...intercom ...

Thank you for shopping Vickie's Vintage and Resort shop, we will be closing in five minutes. Please bring your purchases to the check out, and we hope you have had a wonderful experience at Vickie's.

EL: There goes the cameras...we are on camera now...so behave.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: The lights dimming are a nice touch...you really want to shuffle me and shoppers out? (Looks around at no one in the resort shop).

Vickie over the intercom: No one up here either, ready to close EL?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Vickie, Ian is the last and just leaving, I'm closing out the register right now.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Ian: I'll meet you outside... and the store looks great, I think I know someone selling a scooter. I'll give them a call.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: Sure, meet ya upstairs! (Yikes, this is the slowest day ever...Hope I can still have a job, if business gets worse. At least nothing we sell has tariffs. Maybe the secondary markets will get stronger when everyone realizes how much new imported stuff is going to cost?????)

Superbowl Sunday at Vickie's

Ad-Free Blog

Sunday: It's been pretty quiet at Vickie's, because of the Super Bowl, but the gals have been paying special attention to their customers. (It makes the time go faster too.)
barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Spoiler...Congrats Kansas City in a great game!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Phew, only one more hour to go...

barbieoldnewgreenredo

New customer is in the store...and she is taking her time...........

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Customer: Hmmmmm, (loving these Carmel shoes and purse...or should I think about the tan ones? so many choices.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm sure you would love the scarf too. We have a local artisan who makes these, I wish I could get more of them, but they are one-of-a-kind.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Customer: Now, you just wrapped me up, and here's these silver boots....

...and these graphic tee dresses. Do you get these often? I need to wait until next week to buy more!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Why, yes, we have another local artist who makes those for us...they are Tres Chic Chicago. Again, each one is different. Thanks for coming in.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm ready to pick up my gown and everything else I bought.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Zoe sent down everything and it is all bagged and charged to your card. Is there anything else we can help you with?
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Customer: Zoe was such a great help---with this. I hate going to destination weddings, there is just so much to remember. I'm off to NYC on Thursday, I haven't been on a plane since before Covid.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Well have a wonderful time...you have to see the Guggenheim if you have time, or a play. And the shopping!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Thanks so much, I'm loving this skirt too...thanks again!

Upstairs Zoe is helping a particular customer. Particularly different.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Helena: I love your vintage vibes, but you don't seem to have many dark colors. Could you possible inform me if something in gray, umber or black comes in with an edge?

Zoe: Of course, we have customized shopping lists for any customer who requests such. How about we go through a list of your loves, likes, and NOTS?

Helena: That sounds ideal. I have some time, I don't need anything until mid-summer.

barbieooldnewgreenredo

Helena: Your girl upstairs is lovely and was quite helpful. I'm still looking for some edgier clothing, anything you could recommend down here.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: We have lots of this and that, just take a peek, we are pretty full with vintage right now.

Helena: Hmmm, this little dress with a turtleneck and tights will do.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

And the black lace is always my favorite.

Vickie: Lets bag these up for you...anything else?

Helena: No thank you!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Helena:  I shall be back when Zoe contacts me.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: So, was she happy to find something? I had Helena fill out the Wish List. I don't know if anything will come in that is 'Goth Grandma' before summer.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Now, Zoe. Every customer is a treasure chest just waiting to be opened and sparkle.

Zoe: I know, but she's a bit spooky...anyways, after all the pink and hearts and love stuff...she was quite the change. I'm taking home the inventory sheets to organize. Are we still planning on next week.?

Vickie: Yes, we will let EL and Carly run the resort shop while we do the inventory  here. Everything needs a good cleaning anyway.

Zoe: Sounds like a plan, now let's get going to Barbie's for the party. I LOVE that it isn't a football party and we are going to watch the 'S in the City 'movie with all gals. Do you have any idea who will be there?

barbieoldnewgreenredo
Vickie: The invitation only said Choose your Fashion, Bling and Shoes and Come. What could be more perfect on a Super Bowl Sunday. Joe's already there to watch the game with Ken, they are both on call. So, no alcohol for either of them.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Well, I could use a nice cocktail, LOL, my feet already hurt from these shoes!

Ad-Free Blog
Part Two: A REAL Blow OUT!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

It's not even 10 am and already crazy in Vickie's Vintage.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: (adjusting the manikin) This dress is gorgeous. It won't last long now that it is out here!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Yara: The dress you put on the manikin is so beautiful,  but I need something less formal. Can you help me?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: This has the same coloring, but with the lifted hemline it can be worn anytime, and it would look perfect on you!

Yara: Sold...perfect for this work awards dinner I am going to.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Downstairs more customers enter. The shoe rack overflows with summer shoes..perfect for all the dresses flying out the door.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Jaida: So many choices here. I'm so glad I stopped in. This will be the perfect neighborhood for us to start our new store.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Dresses of every color under the sun or sea!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: We will be happy to hold your purchase while you continue to shop!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Yara: So many shoes...I love all the choices, I really need some new walking shoes.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I don't know which to choose though.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Look at that Mermaid skirt...so fun and shimmery!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: I can't choose EVERYTHING! DARN!

Vicky: It's nice to meet you, Jaida. I hope you do a open another business in the neighborhood. The more the merrier!

Jaida: We hope to be open by Fall. I will be in touch with you, when we do! We have paperwork turned in for the last shop at the end of the block.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

There are still plenty of dresses for more customers.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: How about this jumpsuit, they are very popular right now?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: I just can't make up my mind!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: This is a 'for sure' for Amy's wedding, now to find some shoes that will go with all three dresses!

And it is only 11:00 am on the first day of the sale.

Carly: I'm starving Vickie. We've been here since 7 am, can Zoe and I sneak out and bring back some lunch?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Sure, El and I can handle this, maybe no one has read their emails about the sale. Just bring me back a big shake and a salad.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: Let's go grab some lunch and bring it back.

Zoe: Sure, it's quiet now that those customers are gone.

Outside the door.....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Uh, oh....you go get lunch, I will bring this gaggle of girls into the shop, but hurry back!

Part 3  Sooooooon...

A bit of info on the sources:
Vickies Vintage: Made by my husband and myself. New lighting is LED battery powered and one spotlight for photos.

Fashions are almost all acquired from thrift stores, on thrifted dolls, or door prizes from online groups or from doll club. A few fashions have been purchased new.

Dolls shown today are mostly thrifted:
Carly was the first doll I ever ordered new (2017) was dropped and an arm recently shattered, so I did have to Ebay a used doll to replace her body with a perfect match.

Zoe was long ago thrifted 2017 and re-bodied twice and now with the new articulated body. (She originally had flat feet-why with that gorgeous face it made no sense.)

Yara recently thrifted. I had to redoYara's hair (I think she may have been a trashed Extra doll). She got a new haircut and fluff with refreshed braids as a headband. I should have taken a before photo of this one, lol.

Lanise recently thrifted and given a haircut has the old articulated body(someone may have rebodied her?)

Jaida recently thrifted (possibly a made-to-move) She had a kids ruined strangulated straight hair, I braided her hair into four braids and wound them on top of her head. She may get a bit of makeup down the road.

El was a Mattel Looks doll purchased new when she came first came out in the series.

Have you found any great
thrifted Dolls?
