Being Snowed OUT and IN!

 Ad-Free Blog

2024 Snow, SNOw, SNOW!  (All New Photos)

The entire Chicagoland area is covered with snow. The dolls are all stuck at home, well almost everyone.

Trish and her assistant, Cam, are out trying to salt. But, they have given up as the plows haven't come by yet, nor their maintenance service. Trish's Garden Center is closed like everything else!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Camillia (Cam): I had no idea there was this much snow, seems it all swirled and landed right here in the Garden Center.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Trish: Yep, I think salting is futile until  the maintenance crew gets here. We surely can't open. Long as we are here, let's slog to the back and clean the coolers and the workshop, okay? Maybe start on inventory---it will be great to not be interrupted.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Cam: Sure Trish, I really don't want to walk back to the apartment anyway. You have me as long as you want since all my classes are cancelled.

Down the street....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

...at Barbie and Ken's, it's so peaceful with all the snow.
The backyard is buried in pristine white.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The kitchen is all clean, even the refrigerator.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The table was busy for the holidays. Grampa and Grandma White have left for Florida and the Christmas decorations have all been put away until next year.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The living room is peaceful,

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Upstairs, Chelsea plays with Foofie. and enjoys her day off from school.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Chelsea: I bet you want to go outside, Foofie?

Foofie: UH-uh! (Shaking, NO!)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Dr. Ken just finished a 36 hour shift at the hospital. So many accidents and injuries in the ER with the snowstorm.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Barbie isn't working at her desk....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

She's curled up with her favorite book online, and Ken's pup, Hairy, is sound asleep at her side.
This is a  Perfect winter day off!

Down the street at Rob and Chris's it's a warm cozy home in the remodeled Victorian.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Chris: So you will have all day off with the storm, what do you want to do tomorrow that doesn't involve driving?

Rob: I'm glad this storm happened on a weekend, we have three days to dig out!

Scooter: I'll help, I want to sledding if we can in the park.

Skipper: Me too!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Skipper: Where's Fat Cat?...we are eating and he isn't here begging for food.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Chris: I caught him digging in the garbage in the bathroom and scolded him. I'm sure he is sulking somewhere.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Fat Cat: (I never sulk, I get even---that report looks tasty in the printer????)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Skipper: I want to go sledding in the park tomorrow, too. Maybe make some snow angels.

Rob: How about a snowball fight?

Chris: Sure, girls against YOU!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Chris: I really just want to watch movies!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Fat Cat:( I wonder if the girls left any snacks in their room....I'll go look!)
barbieoldnewgreenredo

(Now where would they have snacks?)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Rob: Well if it keeps snowing, we will get to do everything you want. That snow is really piling up against the glass windows though...Hmmmmmmmm?

(To be continued)

Part Two: A REAL Blow OUT!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

It's not even 10 am and already crazy in Vickie's Vintage.
barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: (adjusting the manikin) This dress is gorgeous. It won't last long now that it is out here!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Yara: The dress you put on the manikin is so beautiful,  but I need something less formal. Can you help me?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: This has the same coloring, but with the lifted hemline it can be worn anytime, and it would look perfect on you!

Yara: Sold...perfect for this work awards dinner I am going to.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Downstairs more customers enter. The shoe rack overflows with summer shoes..perfect for all the dresses flying out the door.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Jaida: So many choices here. I'm so glad I stopped in. This will be the perfect neighborhood for us to start our new store.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Dresses of every color under the sun or sea!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: We will be happy to hold your purchase while you continue to shop!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Yara: So many shoes...I love all the choices, I really need some new walking shoes.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I don't know which to choose though.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Look at that Mermaid skirt...so fun and shimmery!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: I can't choose EVERYTHING! DARN!

Vicky: It's nice to meet you, Jaida. I hope you do a open another business in the neighborhood. The more the merrier!

Jaida: We hope to be open by Fall. I will be in touch with you, when we do! We have paperwork turned in for the last shop at the end of the block.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

There are still plenty of dresses for more customers.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

EL: How about this jumpsuit, they are very popular right now?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: I just can't make up my mind!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lanise: This is a 'for sure' for Amy's wedding, now to find some shoes that will go with all three dresses!

And it is only 11:00 am on the first day of the sale.

Carly: I'm starving Vickie. We've been here since 7 am, can Zoe and I sneak out and bring back some lunch?

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: Sure, El and I can handle this, maybe no one has read their emails about the sale. Just bring me back a big shake and a salad.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Carly: Let's go grab some lunch and bring it back.

Zoe: Sure, it's quiet now that those customers are gone.

Outside the door.....

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: Uh, oh....you go get lunch, I will bring this gaggle of girls into the shop, but hurry back!

Part 3  Sooooooon...

A bit of info on the sources:
Vickies Vintage: Made by my husband and myself. New lighting is LED battery powered and one spotlight for photos.

Fashions are almost all acquired from thrift stores, on thrifted dolls, or door prizes from online groups or from doll club. A few fashions have been purchased new.

Dolls shown today are mostly thrifted:
Carly was the first doll I ever ordered new (2017) was dropped and an arm recently shattered, so I did have to Ebay a used doll to replace her body with a perfect match.

Zoe was long ago thrifted 2017 and re-bodied twice and now with the new articulated body. (She originally had flat feet-why with that gorgeous face it made no sense.)

Yara recently thrifted. I had to redoYara's hair (I think she may have been a trashed Extra doll). She got a new haircut and fluff with refreshed braids as a headband. I should have taken a before photo of this one, lol.

Lanise recently thrifted and given a haircut has the old articulated body(someone may have rebodied her?)

Jaida recently thrifted (possibly a made-to-move) She had a kids ruined strangulated straight hair, I braided her hair into four braids and wound them on top of her head. She may get a bit of makeup down the road.

El was a Mattel Looks doll purchased new when she came first came out in the series.

Have you found any great
thrifted Dolls?

Vickie and the girls have the store ready for the BIG Party Wear Sale...

Come see what's going on!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie's Party BLOW-OUT!
All party wear 50% off

It's before opening, and a special shopper is perusing the upstairs.

BMR: Thanks so much for taking this early appointment, I have so many meetings today.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Zoe: It's so nice to see you Ms. Roberts...and that dress looks divine.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Well, you know Vickie's is always my first stop when I'm in Chicago. I need something for two events, so this will be perfect for one.

Zoe: This satin bag matches, too.

BMR: I want to try this on the stairs, I'm a speaker so I will have to negotiate stairs and it's been a long time since I've had to maneuver this much skirt.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Phew, made it down the stairs.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Vickie thank you so much for opening early for me...I appreciate this. Oh, is that what you picked from my other event? That's bold?

Vickie: Of course and perfect for an outdoor concert event...I'm sure I can find you a lightweight jacket. Just try it on and see.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: I think this jacket will be too small...but I have a different one in the back that will work.

Zoe: This Pink dress just sold online, she's picking it up this afternoon-already paid for.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: If you could please take these up for Ms. Roberts to try on while I look for the other jacket.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Upstairs Zoe changes the manikin with a gorgeous gown.

Zoe: Phew, doors aren't even open yet and so many sales.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie: See, you look gorgeous, concert worthy and comfortable!

BMR: you were right, the jacket was too small.

Vickie: Here,  just slip this one on.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: How the kids say...Jammin' This will be perfect! I'll wear this, could you please deliver the rest to the GrandView. I'm meeting Richelle there to go over my condo designs.

Carly: Certainly, Ms. Roberts! And you do look smashing!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

BMR: Well, thank you ladies, I see you have another happy customer ready to try some cute dresses on.

Shopper(right): Oh, yes, I have four weddings to go to this summer, so 50% off is perfect for my budget!
