Grand Hotel Walk Through

Ad-Free Blog

It's been almost a year since the first meeting about resurrecting the 1892 Grand Hotel into condominiums and public spaces; including a bakery and a beauty salon. Eventually a neighborhood bar will be added in the basement level, just like it was in the 1920's.

Grand View Walk Through

Richelle: Mr. Pitt, I'm so excited. We are almost finished with the Hotel, and it's two days until the Opening of the GRAND VIEW!

Russel Pitt: Richelle, you are supposed to call me Russ, when my crew isn't around. Let's go in and get this final walk-through started.

Grand View Walk Through

An hour later....

Lara (in black): Quit fussing with those leaves, Trish. IT LOOKS FABULOUS!

Trish in the greenery: Just a few more leaves to clean---all the dust finds it's way on to the greenery!

Grand View Walk Through

Russ: My guys have been cleaning for three days---you are imagining any more dust.

Richelle: (Yawn) Well, this coffee sure hits the spot-----THANK YOU, Sindy. Come sit with us!

Sindy: You're welcome. I just have one more serving pot to clean---and we aren't imagining the dust! This is the third time, I've cleaned these.

Grand View Walk Through

Trish: Dust or no dust, thanks for the job. This has been a pleasure!

Richelle (head-designer): You are so talented, Trish. The plantings are perfect for the building! I'm so glad you were able to do it all. Upstairs is gorgeous! I love the railings.

Trish: We just tried to keep it simple and easy care. Later they will spill over the balcony.

Russ: I like the green also...adds some class behind the banquette. Great choice on the upholstery there Richelle.

Grand View Walk Through

Russ: I like the light fixtures you chose. We should be able to get the foyer light hung tomorrow! Always something at the last minute.

Grand View Walk Through

Jamie: Sindy said last call for coffee, or can I get anyone something else?

Trish: Just some tea for me, please!

Grand View Walk Through

Russ: Well, I have quite a few pages for tomorrow, anything else we can add?

Grand View Walk Through

Trish: I may need some help with a ladder tomorrow to hang some planters on the apartment windows?

Russ: I'll have two guys here tomorrow, so no problem.

Sindy: Everything seems to be working fine, we just have to bake all day tomorrow and clean again. If I'm not covered in flour, I'm washing something with glass cleaner!

Grand View Walk Through

Richelle: Hi, Jacquie are you ready to open?

Jacquie: I still have to get the closet set up, wash and fold towels, and unpack some product and mark it.

Richelle: Is everything working well, we did the walk-through, I didn't see anything on the list from you?

Jacquie: Everything is great, except we might need one more light fixture, it was very cloudy today.
Richelle: Well,  let me know. A light over the window would be nice!

Lara: How's it going with Jamie?

Sindy: He's great...a really handy guy--tomorrow we are doinga bake-a-thon. I hope we will have enough for the Open House.

Lara: I don't expect more than family and friends with the Virus.I really have to set up my office tomorrow, we have two condos being moved into tomorrow. I have to be here for that!

Sindy: Well, it's going to be really busy. And the corona-virus, I think that's part of why I keep cleaning!!!

Grand View Walk Through

Trish: I think I love this outside planter most of all, it will be great to add tulips as soon as the weather cooperates. Darn Chicago weather, shirt sleeves today and tomorrow snow???

Grand View Walk Through
Trish: There you go plants....grow and stay green, please!

Grand View Walk Through

Trish: Look how cute Sindy has this window set up---those goodies look nummy. Maybe I can get something after work tomorrow! Now back home to start on those window boxes!

Grand View Walk Through

Richelle: All locked up, Russ. It's been a pleasure working with you on this long project.

Grand View Walk Through

Russ: I know it hasn't been smooth, all the delays about drove me crazy. But, it was worth it saving an historic building, preserving some of the interior, adding 8 condos to the area. I think it is worth it.

Richelle: It sure is...I love this building and what it adds to the neighborhood.

Russ:I have other projects in the near future. Would you be available? I really like the way you work with clients and 'talk them into' the reasonable way to do remodeling.

Richelle: I am getting married this year, no matter what. But, I would love working with you and your crew again...it's been great. We will see you at the OPEN HOUSE?

Russ: With bells, on....!

Richelle: Well, I have to see that! Goodnight!

Vickie's Vintage 2020

AD-Free Blog

Vickie's is always so full of shoppers you probably can't see a thing. The store has been Spring cleaned for late winter and resort wear, as well as seasonal prom and wedding dresses.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The center of Vickie's has a rotating rack with 4 sides, side 1 is casual dresses and skirts! (I mix in some Sparkles Girls dresses for my grand girl to choose, she likes the bright colors over the vintage.)

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vickie adds new items with her vintage selections!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lots of vintage goodies here! I'm amazed at the detail on the older items.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Vintage Barbie jewelry on plastic canvas backed with thin cardboard.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Rack side 2, fancy short dresses and a few tops. Lots of purses work on the hooks.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The shoe rack is always popular, freshened with lots of summer colors and still a few short boots for Chicago winters.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Rack side 3, has more dresses, slacks/jeans and lower shelf has large totes, purses and luggage.

barbieoldnewgreenredo
This cabinet has lots of accessories and lingerie.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

On top are resort items, swimsuits, totes and glasses! Vickie loves to dress this area and it changes often!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Rack Side 4 has vintage jackets and tops...and a few yoga mats.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Whoops, the checkout counter was tipped over to clean under!
The accessory center has 4 drawers of new hair accessories and...

barbieoldnewgreenredo
...Vickie's DIY lotion/soap line.
Jewelry is this and that...with a few extra accessories. The bracelet holder is actually a tape covered glue stick
mounted on a little board.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

All closed up---this fixture (RL vanity accessory) works so well!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Upstairs is Bridal and Formals.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Most of the dresses are definitely vintage. Pantyhose and accessories are displayed with the dresses. Three cabinets showcase the wide array of colors and product.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Lots of fun fabrics, shoes, and accessories...an empty shelf, something sold.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

On top of the closets are jackets and accessories!

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sometimes Vickie has short dresses on top also. The bridal salon has helped Vickie's to be successful in an expensive rental market.
Fictionally located on the north side of Chicago near the HFIM house.

Clothes are always on hold, waiting to be wrapped up, and collected by the (fictitious) customers.
Always great shopping at Vickie's!

Quick Taco Bar and Hotel Update.

AD-Free Blog

Quick post on a very fast diorama and a Hotel update.

I can't emphasize enough how great scrap/book paper is for setting a mood. I wanted to showcase my new/vintage wine glass chairs, which give off a great vintage vibe. And, I wanted to use vintage dolls/Malibu Ken and Malibu Barbie.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

Sun and Fun has always been a theme for Malibu. Here I have my couple enjoying Margaritas, tacos and fresh fruit in this Retro beach bar.

Add caption

The chairs are made of vintage wine glasses(softer plastic that is squeezable). I used a Dremel Moto-tool and a coping saw to cut the sides off. The seat is a circle with a bit of stuffing and a hot glued fabric to cover.

I will show these again when I do 'Patrick's Bar' which will be located in the basement of the Hotel. After I took these photos, I did a quick coat of clear brush on acrylic sealer on the glasses to mask the cuts and sanding marks which then disappeared.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

The table is a round top from a large wood circle from
Walmart (99cents) and 2 coats of black gloss brushing paint.
The base is a candle holder, just the right size. I use poster stickup to put the top on the table so that I can take it apart for storage.
Add dishes and nummy looking cake topper/candle margaritas...and some Barbie food, and they are all set for a great meal!

Taco Bar Diorama

2 hinged/foldable foam core walls covered in white contact paper.
2 pieces of 12x12 scrapbook paper
2 wine glasses made into chairs (cardboard, stuffing, glue, fabric)
1 6" wood circle (Walmart) black acrylic paint
Poster stickup tape
1 vintage black candle holder for table base (thrift store)
Margarita candles
Barbie dishes food
plastic table cloth bits
1 plant with tropical foliage--bits and pieces in a thrift store vase
contact paper floor (I just rolled out a piece on the table top with backing still on.)

Malibu Ken in vintage shirt/pants
Malibu Barbie in Sparklz dress with Barbie shoes and vintage purse

I spent 10 hours in the doll room yesterday working on the HOTEL! After not being in the craft room for over 8 months last year...I'm still catching up. It's one of those messes, that will be a mess until it all falls together! One thing is taking photos---shows me all sorts of things I have to deal with, I didn't see except through the camera's eye.

barbieoldnewgreenredo

I'm working hard on the HOTEL....so many things that have to be done for a Beauty Salon, Bakery/Coffee Shop, and two apartments and the public spaces. I find myself bouncing around between walls and furnishings and those tiny details.

One apartment is almost ready to photo...and Colette and Emilie are quite excited to reveal their BoHo Parisian taste! Just have to add those personal touches!

Doors and walls, railings, inside have been a challenge. Down the road, I will be remaking all the walls of plywood, with channels on the base like I did for Vickie's Vintage. The goal is always to be portable and able to be stored folded up! Again, the Hotel is on a 54" x 24" piece of plywood. YIKES!

And the lighting...I have opted for LED magnet lights(which didn't stick, and now they are up with permanent foam tape, which I hope I can remove when I need to change batteries.)
The magnet on one didn't stick, fell down on the switch and turned on all the lights. By the time I found it, I had burned out 15 AAA batteries...again, YIKES!

I have to get this done before planting season---because Spring Yard clean up this year will be monumental and we have the new RL greenhouse to fill!
